    Celebrating my mom’s birthday

Amidst everything going on in my mom’s life, I decided to give her a little humble surprise. It’s unlike previous years where I was always taking her on a nice vacation or even a fancy diner. So, for her almost 60th birthday, I took her to a place she has been curious about for the last few months. The place is a little far from the city and is quite hidden from the road but it was worth the hassle getting there.

We got there with a grab car which took about 30 minutes to drive. On our way there, the grab driver was FOMO ing us saying that we couldn’t find an online taxi & told us to save his number. I already knew that he’s looking for extra bucks but I declined the offer knowing that the place was still in the city and it wouldn’t be that hard to find an online taxi or transportation.

    Beenyon Farm Location

The place is located adjacent to rice fields but the whole compound, they have a mix of mediterranean aesthetic with tropical vibes to it. The buildings are painted white and blue adorned with bougainvillea to match the overall atmosphere. While the main location itself is quite nestled among local houses and quite difficult to reach, they actually fit a car and their parking lot can accommodate more than 10 cars inside as well as more than 50 motorbikes.

Interior & exterior of the place

We were greeted by the friendly staff who showed us the way to the main building where we can sit and order food. I was completely mesmerized when we entered the main building that has arched round windows that overlooked the rice fields.

The interior of the main building was filled with rattan and earthy color. It was made to have a tropical look that is similar to what we normally see in Bali’s restaurants or trendy cafes.

The place is called Beenyon farm and they also offer bougainvillea cultivation and they also sell various colors of it. Around the area, they also sell various cacti and they even have iguanas in a few different colors.

But the main attraction other than the instagrammable compound is also the dove flying low and who aren’t bothered by human presence at all.

They were flying and walking around in front of the receptionist area.

    The experience inside the place

The place offers indoor and outdoor areas where guests can choose the place they’re most comfortable sitting at. The indoor area includes the main building and two areas where we can sit surrounded by cacti and bougainvillea.

The outdoor options include the yard that overlooks the rice field and the building of the restaurant. From the outdoor area, the restaurant building looks very dreamy and Pinterest worthy.

It really makes you want to own a house in a similar style next to a rice field. Obviously, there are some cons especially during harvest time where sometimes it involves burning the crops as many here still rely on traditional farming methods.

The attraction of the place is definitely the building and the whole aesthetic that was calming. It was an experience itself and the food was just cherry on top for the experience being in the place. Although it was slightly hot outside the area, it was quite breezy and can make you feel sleepy inside the area.

The food itself isn’t necessarily top notch. The menus are quite okay with selections of asian/indonesian cuisine than western cuisine. I didn’t even order the food because nothing quite caught my interest.

It was only my mom’s order of beef soup and refreshing coconut drinks and orange juice. But for me, I got this coffee that was heavy with whipped cream.

I also met up with a friend whose home was close to the area. He didn’t even know such a place existed. We explored the outdoors and I found these spiders casually hanging out and trying to take more pictures from the outside of the place. We also checked out the meeting room which costs $12 for an hour and is the only place with Air-conditioning and fancy chairs with tables. It was a comfortable meeting room that could also act as a photo-studio or podcast room.

The space was quite unique of its kind. It was a modern styled house amidst rice fields and in the countryside.

This place can be an inspiration space especially if your house is located in the countryside and adjacent to the rice fields. Although, when you build this kind of space, you’d have to consider installing a lightning protection system as well as finding ways to protect the house from snakes or bugs that might enter from the rice paddy side.
