"The White Night" in Karelia

    Hi!

We hardly made any stops the rest of the way, except for spontaneous raids on fields of porcini mushrooms, which we simply could not pass by.

As a result, we reached Votto-Vaary in the evening. As far as I remember, it was ten o'clock in the evening. We just managed to set up tents and build a fire to cook hot food. And dusk fell on us.

From our parking spot there was a beautiful view to the west. Below, forests and lakes stretched to the horizon. The sky began to turn into the colors of sunset.

It is problematic to set up tents on rocky ground. Firstly, it is difficult to choose a more or less flat and smooth surface. And secondly, it is difficult to stick tent pegs into such soil.

In the end, we all coped with this task. The women were busy with dinner. We sat down by the campfire. There was one big and ongoing problem - mosquitoes. There were so many of them that we were desperate. It was possible to hide from them only in a tent or near the smoke of a campfire.

And then it dawned on us that here in these latitudes there is such a phenomenon as "white nights" and we are just now present at such a phenomenon.

It was so amazing! Finally, we forced ourselves to go to bed, because tomorrow we had to hike through some places in Votto-Vaara and needed to get a good rest and gain strength.

    Travel farther and longer!
