My last days in medical college

The long awaited moment is almost here. That moment when you're about to kiss college life goodbye. It's an amazing feeling having the knowledge that in few months from now you'll be adored in a black, glorious graduation gown. I'm filled with so many positive emotions: happiness, joy and every beautiful feeling you can imagine .

Recently, we the finalists of the university of Nigeria, college of medicine, all came together to celebrate one last moment of unison. We've been together not just as colleagues but as brothers, sisters and friends. So we decided to have a hangout at a popular lounge — this was the first hangout I ever attended throughout my stay in college. Yeah, feel free to call me an introvert! But I did have fun.

We danced, had a singing competition and played lots of games: I beat everyone at the chess competition though.

And of course, I took some pictures with my female colleagues 😁

What better way is there to enjoy our last moments in college together, than a perfect hangout!

Despite the glee that comes with being a finalist in campus, there's this little bit of fear that comes with it as well. When I say fear, it's not the literal fear of being a final year student. It's the fear of facing/encountering the real world, the fear of competing with people who'd forever strive to see you six feet beneath the ground... the fear of becoming an adult!

It's not easy living your entire life from a suckling babe to a 24 year old adult under the provision of your parents then suddenly, it dawns on you that in the twinkle of an eye, you'll go through the same stress your parents went through to put some food on the table and guess what? This time around you're not working only for yourself but for the same people whose existence was to ensure that you had the best possible life. It's funny how life quickly turns around. I mean, one moment you're a school boy living life under your parents care, the next moment, you're a man faced with a lot of responsibilities.

Campus is just like a military training base, You learn a lot while in it.

LIFE IN COLLEGE : my colleague and I during school hours

I'd say some of the things college taught me is how to utilize opportunities when you come across them. It made me experience life and taught me how to act like a Man. I overcame timidity and also learnt one important thing: go for what you want without thinking about what the universe has to say about you.

I learnt how to effectively communicate with people, especially with the opposite gender. My first 3 years in college, I was timid when It came to talking with girls. I couldn't hold a proper discussion with them. Always felt... Should I say inferior? Yeah, "Inferior" is definitely the word. But now I have a lot more female friends than even males. College, I would say, is one of the best things that has happened to me in life.

I'm indeed grateful I'm at the end of the journey. All the stress, the hunger, the tears and failures were all part of a greater cause and without them, I wouldn't have built this mindset which has changed my perspective of the world.

Lastly, I'd say religion played a crucial role in my 6 years of study... Ever been so down you fall into depression? Ever felt like the whole world and even your family abandoned you? well, I was a victim of this and I can proudly say that I ran to God to seek solace at each point and I felt an inexplicable rush of relief. This wouldn't have been possible if I didn't go through this amazing institution.

I guess Life is a learning ground and from my experience, school is a potent medium that gives us that experience and enhances our growth.
