A Different June

Time passes so hastily, he said, breaking the silence. We return once again to June with a different story, don't we? The rain still pours heavily on the pines beyond the mist-covered hills, and the mountain wind descends rhythmically, making the atmosphere cold.

I glanced at him, trying to decipher his unreadable expression. "Do you remember a year ago in June?" I asked, breaking the silence he had just left. He was silent for a moment, lowering his head. "Last June left us speechless and wounded me. I hoped June would bring joy, but instead, sorrow resides in the heart of a broken person," I continued.

Silent within an uncontainable silence in that atmosphere. The rain grew heavier, as if echoing in our lonely hearts. Each drop brought back memories we didn't want to remember, yet always appeared uninvited.

A year ago, in this same place, we both stood under the same pine, witnessing the same nature, but with different hearts. At that time, the sky was also cloudy, and the rain fell heavily, but we didn't care. We laughed, talked about dreams and hopes that now feel distant.

"You know," he finally spoke, his voice soft, almost drowned out by the roar of the rain. "I still feel that wound every time it rains like this. It's like something is tearing my heart apart, reminding me of everything that's lost and can never return."

I nodded, feeling the same. "But maybe, this June can be different," I said, though not entirely convinced in my heart. "Maybe, we can learn from that wound. Not to forget it, but to accept it and live the days ahead with more strength."

He looked at me, his eyes reflecting exhaustion and faint hope. "Maybe you're right," he said softly. "Maybe, we can find a way to make peace with our past."

The rain began to subside, and the mist on the hills slowly disappeared. The mountain wind was still cold, but no longer as piercing as before. We stood there, in a silence that began to feel warmer.

This June was indeed different. Not because of the rain, not because of the mist or the mountain wind. But because we decided to see it differently. We decided not to be trapped in the shadows of the past, but to walk together towards a brighter tomorrow.

And maybe, just maybe, this June will be the beginning of a new story full of hope.
