Weather remains quite unstable - clouds broke away for a dry morning after heavy rain in the night. Forecast is for thunderstorms to return in the afternoon. Did shake my tail to get out early enough to ride to far side of Seven Mile Beach NP. It has the most likely rainforest for autumn orchids
The signature flower of the park was plentiful - Australian native violet
Quite a few of these - known colloquially as wandering Jew. I am told it is a native. It sure likes to spread
With heaps of rain, the mushrooms are coming up
Focus of the walk was recce for autumn orchids - one leaf showing for a greenhood orchid - and a mini mushroom. Size of a pin - height and head
Another cluster of greenhoods - maybe blunt greenhoods - and a mushroom
Location shot for the turn - for some reason there are no orchids under these trees
This mushroom is quite different. Normally they come up and create a convex top - this one I concave and more like petals of a flower
More differences on the way back. It is an orchid. 3 leaves suggests it is a rosette = greenhood. What has me confused are the serrated edges which is more consistent with chilloglottis orchids. We shall see
Some serrated edges here but the length of the leaf stalk is consistent with nodding greenhood
Little red mushroom on a tall stem
More greenhoods - maybe the same as the prior ones
Copper top mushroom
A trio of spindly mushrooms
Cycled across to the other side track - was a day for red mushrooms that side too
This one shows what they grow to - 3 times the size of the others
Talking of 3 - three in frame
One growing sideways out of a tree truck - textures are quite different - more like a piece of wood rather than gossamer
One last cluster of greenhoods in a known spot - either pterostylis hildae or curta. Both grow in this spot
Longest ride for a while. Have booked a Murray River bike ride in mid March. Need to get some kms in the legs.
Afternoon steamed up - humidity sucks
Dinner: Pizza
Trade action: Bought EU, CHPT, URA.
