Just when we thought it was getting warmer in March, it suddenly turned cold in the last few days. On Friday morning it snowed, and although there was no snow on the ground, the weather was so bad that I hesitated to ride my bicycle, making it difficult to take my children to daycare. However, the snow soon stopped, and in the afternoon we had beautiful blue skies. March 8 was International Women's Day, so before picking up my son, I stopped by a flower shop and bought a small bouquet of mimosas. My plan was to have my son give it to my wife when he returned home, but the plan failed as he ran to the living room as soon as he opened the front door and took off his shoes. I ended up giving the flowers to my wife.
International Women's Day is said to have originated on March 8, 1904, when women workers demonstrated for women's suffrage in New York City, USA. More than 70 years later, in 1975, International Women's Day was officially established by the United Nations. I had not really been aware of it before, but I thought it was a good opportunity to look at the long history of gender-related issues.
Well, the date changed and Saturday morning turned out to be a very pleasant morning with clear skies. It was cold as usual, but I took a brisk walk with my son with Mt. Today, I saw a long-tailed duck and a mallard in the park pond and spent some time bird-watching. They are obviously different species of ducks, but they swim together in a flock. My son and I spent a leisurely time talking about how they are all good friends.
In the afternoon I went for a run for the first time in a while. I hadn't been able to run since I bruised my right foot, so it was a light run. I am glad to hear that my leg seems to have recovered without any problems. As a matter of fact, I have decided on the next half marathon I am going to compete in, so I am going to work hard for that. The event is in the fall, and I will practice hard so that I can finish the race.
After the run, a good beer awaits. Chikuwa, onion, and cheese wrapped in spring roll skin and deep fried, and yam steak are the snacks. After all, beer after running is delicious. Actually, I drank some at lunchtime, too.

3月に入って暖かくなったと思ったら、ここ数日急に寒くなりましたね。金曜日の朝は雪も降り、積雪は無かったものの、自転車に乗るのが躊躇われるほどの空模様、子供を保育園に送り届けるのも大変です。しかし降雪はすぐに止み、午後は綺麗な青空が見える天気となりました。この日3月8日は国際女性デーということで、息子のお迎えの前に花屋さんに寄って、ミモザの小さなブーケを買いました。帰ったら息子から妻に渡してもらう作戦でしたが、玄関を開けて靴を脱いだら一目散にリビングへ駆けていき、作戦は失敗。花は私から妻に渡すことになってしまいました。
国際女性デーは、1904年3月8日にアメリカのニューヨークで女性労働者が婦人参政権を求めてデモを起こしたことに由来するそうです。それから70年以上経った1975年に国連によって国際女性デーが正式に制定されました。これまであまり意識していなかたのですが、ジェンダーに関わる長い歴史に目をむけるいい機会だと思いました。
さて、日付変わって土曜日は朝から快晴でとても気持ちのいい朝となりました。相変わらずの寒さですが、海から見える富士山を横目に息子との散歩も軽快です。今日は公園の池にオナガガモとマガモがいてしばらく野鳥観察をしました。明らかに種は違うカモですが、一緒に群れて泳ぐんですね。息子とみんな仲良しさんなんだねーと話しながらまったり過ごしました。
午後は久しぶりにランニングに行ってきました。右足の打撲をしてから走れていなかったので軽めのランニングです。どうやら足は問題なく回復したようでよかったです。実は次に出場するハーフマラソンの大会が決定したので、そこに向けてこれから頑張りたいと思います。大会は秋、完走できるようにしっかり練習していきたいと思います。
走り終わったあとは美味しいビールが待っています。ちくわ、玉ねぎ、チーズを春巻きの皮に包んで揚げたものと山芋のステーキがおつまみです。走り終わった後のビールはやっぱり美味いです。実はお昼にも少し飲んでいるんですけどね。
