Eating habits - LOH220

Food contributes to our energy and nutrients and also to our health and diseases. Our intake of foods should be aimed to give nutrients, prevent diseases, give strength and quality of life. I can't really say my eating habit entails 50% of what I listed above, I don't have any self care recipe, my cravings are 90% unhealthy, so but let me say I have a self destructive recipe instead.

I usually get up at 4 or 5am Sunday to Fridays, I do my necessary morning activities of reading, cooking and prepping for work or church. I have my bath and leave for work by 6:50am (I leave for church on Sundays, same time). I walk to work and I'm usually at work till 5pm. Breakfast is often regarded as the most important meal of the day because like its name, it's a break from the night’s fast but for some reasons it's not applicable to me.

Some of the reasons I don't take breakfast is because I consider eating by 6:50am too early and I'll be late for work, when I get to work I can't eat by 7am cause I'll be in the reading class supervising the students, still can't eat by 8am cause I'll be at the assembly ground and by 8:30am - 12:35pm I'll be in class (6 different periods and 10 mins break between). Then at lunch, I take food to work but I buy snacks and carbonated drinks because I feel shy eating in front of people, especially not in front of my students so I go back home with my food untouched. Work continues 6 - 8 periods in a day, then at the end of the day I feel so exhausted and famished.

Surprisingly at dinner, I would only eat a little and would be satisfied. At the end of the term, I will end up looking lean and sometimes get sick. Funny enough my cravings are mostly sweetened biscuits, beans and bread (which laziness won't let me get or prepare) and sipping garri (unhealthy amounts). I think with my eating habit I'm surviving by God's grace.

Adopting a new healthier eating habit will protect me from unnecessary illnesses (especially diabetes) that's why I'm trying to overcome my problem of not eating in public by trying to eat a little food before going for my regular snacks, reducing my intake of junks and sweetened biscuits and also eating healthier food during dinner. I believe if I stick with these, they'll become a part of my daily routine of HEALTHY EATING HABIT.
