    Introduction

    New development in the artificial intelligence where researchers in the United States have developed an AI model that can help electrical networks prevent power outages by automatically redirecting power in less than a second.

    The basic idea behind this development is that this new system will detect problems in the electricity network and fix them automatically without human intervention.

    Unlike Lebanon and some of the countries around us, that I don’t think such development can work, America's electrical grid is a vast and complex network of transmission and distribution lines, generating facilities and transformers that distribute electricity from energy sources to consumers.

    The new technology is an example of “self-healing network” technology that uses artificial intelligence to detect and fix problems such as outages automatically and without human intervention when problems occur, such as damage to power lines due to storms.

    After working on different scenarios in a test network, the results showed that the developed model can automatically identify alternative paths to transmit electricity to users before an outage occurs, and this is a big step forward for improving infrastructure.

    Here, developers were able to take advantage of one of the advantages of artificial intelligence, which is its speed, as the system can automatically redirect the flow of electricity within a microsecond, while current human-controlled processes to determine alternative paths can take from minutes to hours.

    This development occurred through the application of technology that applies machine learning (a branch of artificial intelligence that allows systems to learn from data) to graphs to describe the complex relationships between entities that make up the electricity distribution network.

    Machine learning includes the way different components are arranged relative to each other and how electricity is transmitted using graphs describing the network topology

    This opens up many more avenues because network topology may also play a crucial role in applying AI to solve problems in other complex systems, such as critical infrastructure and ecosystems.

    This approach relies on reinforcement learning, which makes the best decisions to achieve optimal results. If electricity is blocked due to faults in the lines, the system is able to use switches and draw electricity from sources available in the vicinity, such as large solar panels or batteries on a university campus or commercial establishment, where those generators can be utilized to supply electricity to a specific area.

    Conclusion

    Taking advantage of the strengths of artificial intelligence in order to develop humanity is the main goal, as at this stage the system mainly aims to find the optimal path to send electricity to the largest possible number of users as quickly as possible, but there remains a need for more research before this system have actual and full implementation.

    After focusing on preventing outages, researchers will be able to develop a similar technology to repair and restore the network after an outage occurs, in addition to improving the effectiveness of other service sectors in terms of infrastructure such as water resources, communications, and others.

    Who knows, it is also possible that developing countries will be able to benefit from these technologies in the future.
