Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has been the talk of the season in the Premier League and Europe, alongside FC Barcelona player Raphinha, who is also having an incredible season in Spain. Salah was at the top of the list for the Ballon d'Or race before Liverpool's defeat at home to PSG in the Champions League and on top of that Liverpool lost the EFL Cup to Newcastle United in the space of one week and this has put some questions about Salah chances of winning the Ballon d'Or this year has dropped after the recent defeat the reds faced.

The Champions League changed the rules two years ago as the award will be based strictly on individual performance and if we are being honest yes Salah has been good in the Premier League, but he has not been that good in the Champions League which Raphinha takes that lead as the Brazilian is on 11 goals in the competition this season and has the better chance of winning the award than Salah this year.

Salah, yes, should be in the Ballon d'Or debate and as a top contender, that is for sure, but if we are looking at general performance in all competitions this season, Raphinha has arguably been the best so far, and if Barcelona wins the UCL is already a guarantee that Raphinha will take home the awards. My take is based on the stats and performance on the pitch; plus, I am not going to be biased because I am a Liverpool fan, and things should be said as they are seen.

There is no Liverpool fan that doesn't want to see Salah hold the Ballon d'Or award which will make the Premier League see two players win the award back to back as it has been dominated by players that played in Laliga for a long time. Salah is still having a wonderful season with Liverpool as they push for the Premier League title and take it home if they succeed in remaining on top till the end of the season. It would have been nice to see Liverpool progress further in the Champions League this season, and possibly, I would have liked to see them play FC Barcelona in the final, but it was meant to be this season.

The race for the Ballon d'Or is still open, and although Salah may not win it this year, he is definitely going to be in the top three on the Ballon d'Or list. It was a great run for Salah, and I hope things get right for Liverpool in the Champions League under Arne Slot, as their team needs to improve and rise up to the challenge against tougher teams. It is going to be an interesting end to the season for all leagues and all eyes will be set when the Ballon d'Or countdown begins later this year. Thanks for taking the time to read this post, and more updates will follow soon, have a good day.
