    The Rocks Riverside Park has quite a bit of history to it. Located 15 kilometres south west of Brisbane CBD. It is an interesting place for a wander around, a picnic or even a parkrun, even better if you can squeeze all 3 into a morning outing.

    The traditional custodians the Yuggera people used to use the bend in the river with lots of rocks as a way to cross the river. Hence the name ”Rocks Riverside” Next the river helped all the European settlers set up farms, before it finally became Industrialised.

    The nearby cement factory was struggling to source lime for the production of the cement. So they started to dredge dead coral from Morten Bay and crush it to extract lime for there cement.

    Nowadays the parkland are used for many other things including the local gardening community.

    They were growing lots of different plants as well as had a swap a book street library.

    The concrete structure is all that is left of the 3.5 kilometre long conveyer belt that used to cart the crushed coral to the cement factory in near by Darra.

    We were mainly there for the parkrun run and it was the second time we have run this one.

    Stainless Steel nuts and washers concreted into the pathways were a nice touch inline with the parks industrial past.
