Music On Leo Songs Now Have Polls

    Progress is being made.

The development team is working hard on bringing polls out and, personally, I am very happy about this. While there are still some challenges, we are going to see polls on both Threads and long form posts. This is going to really help LeoGlossary implement another level of activity.

For now, we have to focus upon threads since the other is still receiving attention.

As of now, we are able to add polls to songs that are created on LEO. This is a major step forward and something I was looking forward to since this idea started about 4 months ago.

    People Can Vote On Songs

The idea of a database is to fill it with data that is utilized for a host of purposes. At the same time, we also discuss the concept of more valuable threads. This can incorporate a few different components. Nevertheless, I feel Music on Leo captures this.

Polls only enhances what we are dealing with.

Take a look at this. Yes, this is nothing more than a thread.

If we compare this to much of what we see on Leo, we realize how much more this single thread can offer. To start, it has a song embedded into it. This will allow people to return repeatedly to listen to it. Then we have a poll right underneath.

Here is where we enter the realm of decentralized polling. Naturally, one requires a Hive account to vote and the each one is entered onto the blockchain. There is no manipulating the totals.

While this isn't imperative for a song, it could be crucial for other forms of voting. For this reason, it is beneficial for Leo to get this in order.

    Music Polls

As we can see, there is a simple rating system.

We have three options, denoted by the stars. One simply clicks on whatever level he or she feels is best for this song.

As a side note, we will likely have a rating up to 5 on the movies although we are presently limited to 4 entries. This might entail going with 5-3-1 as options.

Polls is meant to increase engagement. Unfortunately, without a way to capture them, most end up buried. That isn't necessarily the end of the world because most polls either A) do not matter much or B) are time sensitive.

So while a poll for the best author in a particular community is of value, after the polling period, it is useless.

The nice thing about music polls is they are ongoing. People can vote them over time. A vote by someone new, two years from now, is equally as applicable is one cast today.

Of course, now that we are starting the process of adding them, it can be a conversation piece over the next couple month. The goal will be to get thousands of these on Leo., providing ample opportunity for people to get involved.

We also have to keep in mind that, at some point, the recommend algorithm will be applied to threads. That means people listening to the songs will have others put in front of them. We all know this is how YouTube works.

Eventually, most that is suggested will have a poll tied to it.

    How To Set This Up

There is a problem, right now, capturing the songs with polls since they will not register under the Music on Leo tag or the latest feed. They will appear in the threads listed under one's profile. Where this is an issue is with the members who are capturing the songs and adding them to the LeoGlossary database.

So keep this in mind and be sure to make a list so we can add them.

That said, the process is rather simple and we should try to keep it uniform:

    • In the thread, place the artist name - song name
    • Then use the Music On Leo tag
    • Embed the YouTube code (Premium membership is required)
    • Type in "Rate this song:"
    • Underneath enter the poll. This is done by scrolling to the bottom and hitting the poll icon.
    • Hit "Add Choice"
    • Enter 3 stars ⭐ (on PC, right click and open emoji: on mobile, open emoji screen)
    • Hit "Save" (there seems to be a bug right now that wont allow more options without saving)
    • Hit "Edit"
    • Select "Add Choice"
    • Enter 2 stars
    • Hit "Add Choice"
    • Enter 1 star
    • Press "Save" and hit "Thread"

The latest update automatically centers the stars in the replies. If they are left justified, simply use the space bar to move to the middle. It will stop when centered.

That is all there is too it. Now there is a poll tied to the song.

Now that we have this feature, we are going to put forth effort to fill the database with new songs, especially on the artist singles pages. There are now 165 artists with their own pages, totally over 4,200 songs. These are all housed on the blockchain, without being recorded anywhere else.

This is the next step forward for Music on Leo.

A shoutout goes to @mightpossibly for the idea of the rating system. It is something that most are familiar with and can easily figure out.
