There are too many processes before we can finally cook rice to eat. For the information of everybody, by the time the rice will be harvested the rice is not yet ready. Before placing the rice that is still in husk under the burning sun to make sure it dries. The first thing to do is separating the rice while still in husk from its crop.

The Bisayan word for harvesting rice is “Ani.” Not the same as it is called from other fruits, vegetables or plants in harvesting. “Ani” is the specific name for harvesting rice. By doing that, making sure that the crop will be cut under where the last fruits of the rice are. Obviously, the fruits of it are still not separated from its crop and its branches. It will take too much time separating the fruit from hands. That’s why there’s a machine they called it, “SULPOT.”

“SULPOT” is the bisaya word, sorry but I don’t know the name in english. Although “Sulpot” is a word from bisaya, the english meaning of it means to pop out or to forcefully come out. Just like separating rice fruits from the crop. The rice crops will be placed in that machine while the fruits are still there. That’s how the two of them were separated and ready to get inside the sacks.

The “Sulpot” was made specifically for this job. You can see leaves and branches are throwing up in the sky while the fruits of the rice while still in a husk are going under. That's the place where the rice expectedly to come out. So there are 3 jobs that a “sulpot” do, placing the rice crops and then separating the fruits from the crops. Although the rice is still not ready yet because to make sure nothing will be mixed with the rice fruits there is still one process that should be done.

When the rice is now separated from the crops. There is no assurance that there is nothing being mixed in that rice fruit. A rice mill owner will not be pleased if they know the rice is messy or dirty in placing it. That's why aside from “sulpot”, a blower will be used too. A blower will make sure the rice that has husk is clean. After these processes, the rice is now ready to place in the sacks so it will be easier when drying it under the sun.
