Hello friends of Hive Book, good afternoon. I hope you are all feeling wonderful. Today I come to tell you a very special story about the creation of a book that fills us with pride and emotions: “Rea”, a book of murga and popular poetry from Buenos Aires. A handmade, artistic and unique project that breathes carnival and love in every page. I hope you like it, because even I don't know how to start narrating this adventure... Hola amigos de Hive Book, buenas tardes. Espero que todos se encuentren de maravillas. Hoy vengo a contarles una historia muy especial sobre la creación de un libro que nos llena de orgullo y emociones: “Rea”, un libro de murga y poesía popular porteña. Un proyecto artesanal, artístico, y único, que respira carnaval y amor en cada página. Espero que les guste, porque ni yo sé bien cómo comenzar a narrar esta aventura… Como siempre de la mano de @lareadelsur como musa y motor.

How to start? Practically since my first days in the murga Zarabanda Arrabalera, I knew there was a book on the way. However, it wasn't until it began to take shape that I discovered the details of its creation. Last winter the magic was unleashed: ideas, colors, designs, and every element that would turn this book into a little piece of carnival in print were shuffled around. I will never forget the excitement I felt when I saw the first prototype. Of which there ended up being about 4 “first versions” that had changes and extras.

¿Cómo comenzar? Prácticamente desde mis primeros días en la murga Zarabanda Arrabalera, supe que había un libro en camino. Sin embargo, no fue hasta que comenzó a tomar forma que descubrí los detalles de su creación. El invierno pasado se desató la magia: se barajaron ideas, colores, diseños, y cada elemento que convertiría este libro en un pedacito de carnaval impreso. No olvidaré jamás la emoción que me dio cuando vi el primer prototipo. Del cual terminaron habiendo cerca de 4 “primeras versiones” que tuvieron cambios y extras.
The illustrations were carefully selected, integrated with the text to give life to the “magics” on some sheets. These “magias” are details that evoke the spirit of the Buenos Aires carnival, that festive essence that takes us to the streets and neighborhoods, to the laughter and the drums. We also had to choose the order of each image, something that I would not have known would take time and selection, thought and organization.

Las ilustraciones fueron cuidadosamente seleccionadas, se integraron con el texto para dar vida a las “magias” en algunas hojas. Estas "magias" son detalles que evocan el espíritu del carnaval porteño, esa esencia festiva que nos lleva a las calles y a los barrios, a las risas y a los bombos. También hubo que elegir el orden de cada imágen, algo que no hubiera sabido que llevaba tiempo y selección, pensamiento y organización.

The confection was a collective labor of love. We chose the leaves, the covers, the cardboard, and the spirals.Each member of the team was in charge of a part of the process: some drew, others painted, and we all put a little piece of our heart in the handmade lids, which with colorful bubbles and bubbles remind us of those Buenos Aires summers of childhood and play.Ribbons, glue, scissors and a lot of papel picado went around and induced us in an atmosphere of work and commitment.

La confección fue un trabajo de amor colectivo. Se eligieron las hojas, las tapas, los cartones, y los espirales. Cada integrante del equipo se encargó de una parte del proceso: unos dibujaron, otros pintaron, y todos pusimos un pedacito de nuestro corazón en las tapas artesanales, que con burbujas de colores y bombuchas nos recuerdan a esos veranos porteños de infancia y juego. Cintas, pegamentos, tijeras y mucho papel picado dió vueltas y nos indujo en un ambiente de trabajo y compromiso.

November was a month of meetings and creation. Long weekends and weeknights were filled with planning and rehearsal.The book not only took physical form, but was also nourished by every laugh, every chat, and every shared mate.Thus, with love and dedication, we prepared its great presentation.Because we were not only creating it, but we also devised its presentation, staging, and while some were with songs and dance, others were with guests and scenery.

Noviembre fue un mes de encuentros y creación. Fines de semana largos y noches de semana se llenaron de planificación y ensayo. El libro no solo tomaba forma física, sino que también se nutría de cada risa, de cada charla, y de cada mate compartido. Así, con amor y dedicación, se preparó su gran presentación. Porque no solo lo estábamos creando, sino que también ideamos su presentación, puesta en escena, y mientras algunos estaban con canciones y baile, otros estaban con invitados y escenografía.

The premiere took place on a rainy Sunday, in a nostalgic atmosphere that brought together many carnival enthusiasts. It was a day of talks and memories, where the experiences of the years merged into a single collective heartbeat.“Rea” was presented to us as a bridge between the past and the present, a work that carries the soul of the Buenos Aires carnival in its pages, I heard around as a whisper that said in passing, that this historical fact is gathered in Rea, as a communion between the past, what we are, and we were toasts to what we will always be.

El estreno se llevó a cabo un domingo de lluvia, en un ambiente nostálgico que reunió a muchos apasionados del carnaval. Fue una jornada de charlas y recuerdos, donde las experiencias de los años se fundieron en un solo latido colectivo. “Rea” se presentó ante nosotros como un puente entre el pasado y el presente, una obra que lleva el alma del carnaval porteño en sus páginas, escuché por ahí como un susurro que decía al pasar, que este hecho histórico se reúne en Rea, como una comunión entre el pasado, lo que somos, y fuimos brinda ante lo que siempre seremos.

The creation of this book was as beautiful a process as the final result.With teams of three to six people, we worked on the banding, gluing, and decorating.The meetings were a perfect excuse to get to know each other better, chat, share music and homemade food, and between some photographs and videos, we encouraged each other. Each meeting was one more step towards the realization of this shared dream.As for its history, it took years, as I understand it, to have had the idea, to be shuffling, imagining, budgeting, trying to take it forward, to gather everything necessary.And here it is, it arrived.

La creación de este libro fue un proceso tan bello como el resultado final. Con equipos de tres a seis personas, trabajamos en el anillado, el pegado, y la decoración. Las reuniones fueron una excusa perfecta para conocernos más, charlar, compartir música y comidas caseras, entre algunas fotografías y videos, nos alentamos entre todos. Cada encuentro fue un paso más hacia la realización de este sueño compartido. En cuanto a su historia, fueron años según entiendo, de haber tenido la idea, de ir barajando, imaginando, haciendo presupuesto, intentando llevarlo delante, reunir todo lo necesario. Y aquí está, llegó.

“Rea” is not just a book; it is a celebration of the popular poetry of Buenos Aires, of lunfardo, and of the emotions that connect us with our roots.I would love to share all of its contents with you, but the energy that surrounds it is something you must experience for yourself.It is a journey through the porteño soul, a caress for the spirit. I hope you liked this story, I truly never thought that making a book would bring so much work and justified fatigue, knowing that we are writing a line in the history of carnival.

Me encantaría compartirles todo su contenido, pero la energía que lo envuelve es algo que deben experimentar por ustedes mismos. Es un viaje a través del alma porteña, una caricia para el espíritu. Espero que les haya gustado esta historia, verdaderamente yo nunca pensé que hacer un libro trajese tanto trabajo y cansancio justificado, sabiendo que estamos escribiendo un renglón en la historia del carnaval.
