De por ella sufrir nada aparento
y dolor no me causa su partida
pues nadie me ve con cara aflijida
ni me ando con grisapa ni aspaviento.

Me miran por las calles muy contento
y piensan que feliz está mi vida
porque de forma alegre y divertida
aliño con fervor todo momento.

Todos dicen que me hallo muy gozoso
y que de pura dicha soy un pozo,
en tanto muestro quieta y firme calma.

Pero jamás sabrán que esa alegría
es finta de falaz algarabía
porque en fatal estado está mi alma.

I don't seem to suffer for her
and her departure causes me no pain
for no one sees me with an afflicted face
and I don't go about with greyness or fuss.

They look at me in the streets very glad
And they think that my life is happy
because in a joyful and amusing way
I am always in the mood for fun and fervour.

They all say that I am very joyous
and that I'm a well of pure joy,
As long as I show quiet and steady calm.

But they will never know that this joy
is a feint of false merriment
For my soul is in a fatal state.
