Nigeria's Heatwave Woes

Seriously guys, this isn't a joke anymore. The heat is Nigeria is becoming a national emergency. I am talking about temperatures that could literally fry an egg. You open your door and you are greeted by a blast of hot air that could knock you over. You step outside and it will be as if you are walking into a giant oven.

Don't even get me started on the nights because you will be lucky if a single puff of air decides to grace you with its presence. Sleeping has become a constant battle against sweat and sheets sticking to your body as if it's your second skin. The worse of this is that even the biggest fans tends to feel as if they just just pushing around hot air. Honestly, I am tired of this cruel joke the universe is playing on us.

The painful part of all these is that the heatwave doesn't just make us uncomfortable since it has been proven that it could be very dangerous. Nowadays people tend to get dehydrated easily and faster than before and this is dangerous. Now, imagine that you have been sweating all day, and you still have to navigate through traffic or even work extra shift, guys this is a recipe for heatstroke disaster. Even the strongest amongst us are feeling this right now.

To make matters worse, the electricity situation in the country is very poor. Power outages in Nigeria are now more frequent than mosquitoes that visits at night and we know what that means. No Air condition, no fans, just darkness and suffocating heat.

Our food is not left out because the heatwave is also messing with it. The constant power cuts make it so difficult to even store anything in the fridge again because they might end up getting spoilt.

Even our moods are still affected in this because the heat makes everyone angry. You get to see people with short temper displaying their anger easily and patience becomes a thing of the past. The truth is that no matter how much you try to be productive under these conditions, it will be as if you are trying to build a snowman in the Sahara because it will be pointless and frustrating.

But looking at the bright side, there is actually something positive about the heat since our laundry gets to dry faster right?🤧

I won't deny the fact that we all know that Nigeria is a hot country on a norm, but seriously, this one is on another level. I feel something needs to be done as soon as possible. We need more reliable power supply which I pray the government helps us with and more ways to stay cool.

But until that happens, I will advice Nigerians to stay strong and stay hydrated. I know we will get through this heatwave together in no distant time, even if it means we are to start living like the cavemen just to escape this scorching inferno.
