The Cost of the Green Agenda

in voilk •  4 months ago

An incredibly interesting study published this week by UNCTAD estimates that the cost of the green transition to the global economy over the next decade could be around $5.5 trillion.

Who will pay for the charms of green living?Mostly ordinary people with the help of taxes. Thus, the average American will have to pay an additional $2 thousand for the next seven years.

Residents of other developed and developing economies will have to pay from $332 to $1864 on average. The collection of these taxes has not yet begun, but the budget expenditures of Western countries on the environmental agenda are already running into hundreds of billions.

In the USA, for example, the "Inflation Reduction Act" signed by the President envisages spending $369 billion over the next 8 years on the ecological energy transition.

It is not entirely clear, however, how increasing the price of electricity is supposed to reduce inflation for the population and why such agendas are claimed as a panacea for the poor.

In addition to the government, commercial organizations are also conducting studies on green energy expenditures. GoldmanSachs projects that in total the U.S. will have to spend not $369 billion by 2030, but $1.2 trillion on energy transition.

In general, two things are now becoming clear at once: the first is that no one will cancel the green agenda and that it will be pushed until the end. The second thing is that the talk about environmental friendliness is not monolithic and can be easily adjusted and adjusted to the needs of those who are pushing it the hardest. It's worth thinking about our country starting to proactively set the agenda for green conversations.
