Pergamon: archeology and the Bergama route in Turkey

    Hello people and pinmapplers!

We visit fascinating and extraordinary places and it seems that others are left behind, overshadowed, but if we give them a chance we also discover other very interesting places and enjoy a trip that is undoubtedly unique.

This happens, for example, in well-known archaeological sites such as Ephesus, of which I already shared my trip with you last week here, but instead of going to the southwest of Izmir, Turkey's third city, this time we are going north.

Because to the north in the Izmir region, not too far although it is a short trip, there is another important archaeological site that may not be mentioned as much, it is the ancient Greek city of Pergamon, where we find an acropolis, a wall, and different areas. and complexes still present. And a special place, the Asclepeion, this building was consecrated to the god of Medicine Asclepius, and they had a spa and places for the sick, they say... would it be the first hospital in history?

So this time we changed the route, but the route has been fast and curious, and also deserves to be told, because we started and followed the coast for a long time, and then when we returned we tried to return through the interior, without knowing what we would find...

The coastal area is beautiful, depending on the weather and the time, we travel through the Aliağa area, and then wild areas with animals until we reach the destination.

At the destination we even found a cable car from which to observe so many ancient ruins, and then, we stepped onto the ground and looked up, towards the columns. Most of these columns, those whose upper part was still intact, were of the Ionic style, with their two large volutes, and the fluting of the columns, up close, impressive.

We walked through the entire area calmly seeing that there were hardly any people, so we felt like citizens of that time walking through the main streets, peering into a well that still had water. And then beyond, even a wall or small castle that must have been from another era.

But without much time, we continued touring the area, we had to eat, and we did it practically alone in front of the Aegean Sea. An indescribable moment of peace in the only possible place, where there was no one else outside, and with good Mediterranean food looking at the sea we assimilated where we were and everything we had seen, in such a fleeting discovery.

And we enjoyed the views, again along the coastal area, in the province of Izmir before returning to the city, but on the way back, why not change the route and go inland?

Well, along those roads, the GPS seemed more lost than ourselves, and among the country roads, more animals in the middle of small Turkish villages that enjoyed their freedom and calm, because everything was calm wherever we went.

And then more, outside of those locations, nature, wild and unknown, and some more new friends who we couldn't ask where we were and how to get to our destination.

Those are exciting, interesting and fun trips. In the end, after taking a great lap, we managed to get to where we wanted and should. Happy ending. We will come back to tell more things about Türkiye...
