As you may know or maybe not, depending on how much of a soccer fan you are, the pre-Olympic tournament was held here in my country Venezuela, all to decide which two teams would go to the Olympics to represent South America. Venezuela technically made it to the final match still with possibilities, all they had to do was win.
Although obviously this was not going to be an easy task, our opponent was Paraguay, a tough rival who was fine with a draw, thanks to their physical power, they decided to press our team almost throughout the whole match, not allowing them to make a single pass, Venezuela could only resort to long balls to get out of trouble. Then the misfortune happened.
Venezuela had showed certain defensive mistakes in their previous matches, which honestly no one expected to happen again but ended up occurring, an unfortunate handball gave Paraguay a penalty which they scored in the second half and later on a defender made a mistake and gifted the ball to the Paraguayan forward, conceding the second goal.
At that point we felt disappointed to let such an opportunity slip by, so we waited for the match to end because, you know, you have to stay until the end with honor, and then we went out to the garden to talk and share anecdotes, despite the bitter defeat one could say it was a very fun day.

Como sabrás o quizás no, depende qué tan aficionado al fútbol seas, se jugó el preolímpico acá en mi país Venezuela, todo para decidir cuáles serían los dos equipos que irían a las olimpiadas para representar a Sudamérica, Venezuela técnicamente llegó hasta el último partido aún con posibilidades, lo único que tenía que hacer era ganar.
Aunque obviamente esto no iba a ser cosa sencilla, nuestro oponente era Paraguay, un rival duro al que le valía el empate, que al poseer un poderío físico lo que decidieron hacer durante casi todo el encuentro fue presionar a nuestra selección, no permitiéndole conectar ni un solo pase, Venezuela solo podía jugar al pelotazo para salir del aprieto. Luego la desgracia ocurrió después.
Venezuela en su partidos anteriores a este se le habían visto ciertos errores en defensa, que sinceramente uno no se esperaba que volvieran a pasar pero que terminaron ocurriendo, una mano desafortunada le concede un penalti a Paraguay el cual marcan en el segundo tiempo para luego un poco más tarde un defensa se equivoque y le regale el balón al delantero paraguayo concediendo el segundo tanto.
Ya en ese momento nos sentíamos decepcionados de dejar pasar tal oportunidad, así que esperamos que finalizara el partido porque ya saben, hay que quedarse hasta el final con honor, para luego salir al jardín para hablar y contar anécdotas, a pesar de la amarga derrota podría decirse que fue un día muy divertido.
