***Grèetings Hiveans ***and to all the vegans in the community. How about a tea snack? I know the weekend is over. But then, another weekend reaches in no time. So do spare some time to prepare and eat it hot.

Its a very simple, crispy and tasty evening snack to have with a hot cup of tea named as plantain fry. Give a quick try and enjoy the snack.

So, lets start with the recipe.

    INGREDIENTS REQUIRED :

    • Plantain - 2 (cut vertically and horizontally, giving four pieces or as you desire)
    • All purpose flour - 1 cup
    • Rice flour - 1/2 cup
    • Sugar - 1/2 tsp
    • Cumin seeds - 1 tsp
    • Salt - as per the taste
    • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp ( usually one goes for food colour instead of Turmeric, but I just saw the health benefit)
    • Water - 1 and 1/2 half cup
    • Cooking oil - for deep frying

Note: Same measurement cup should be used for rice flour, all purpose flour and water.

    METHOD OF PREPARATION:

    STEP - 1

The Plantain to use should be medium ripe. If its too ripe, my advice is to not use it , as it will consume more oil, which is otherwise not good health wise. I refrigerated the Plantain due to which the colour of the skin changed and it was a little more ripe than expected. The best time to fry these are when it starts to ripen.

Take a plantain, peel the skin and cut it into two equal halves vertically and horizontally and set aside in a plate.

    STEP - 2

For the mixture, mix the all purpose flour, rice flour along with salt, sugar and cumin. Mix water gradually, the consistency should be a little thick and not in the liquid form. That is the reason, we have to add water gradually. Once done add some turmeric or saffron food colour to it. The batter is ready. Keep aside.

    STEP - 3

Heat a frying pan and pour cooking oil to it. The oil is meant for deep frying, so accordingly pour them. Once the oil becomes hot, reduce the flame to medium. Now, take each piece of slit plantain and dip them one by one into the batter and fry until lite or golden brown. It just takes maximum 3 minutes for frying.

    STEP - 4

Your plantain fritters are ready to be served with hot tea. This is one of the evening snack commonly prepared in our hometown. Enjoy the taste.
Why you add rice flour? It is to get the crispness.
