What do I love in a game on the HIVE network? Collecting. Interacting with other players. Improving. Chance. Value. So when I returned to the HIVE network after taking some time off from it, I was intrigued about this new game that people were talking about.
So what is it? Very simple, it's a kingdom attack and defense game. You improve the various statistics of your army and collect more resources (DENAR) by attacking other kingdoms. But they can also attack you and steal your DENAR. So it's a game about going back and forth. Really exciting.
Now graphically, it's very simple. Just categories and numbers associated with the categories.
Each category influences your army and kingdom with immediate impact. And I love it. As you might have noticed, graphics aren't a key component of my criteria to enjoy a game. Gameplay over graphics. The thought and effort on the user interface is tremendous, with a pop-over on each statistic to explain what it represents.
As for the other kingdoms, it's again and effective.
A simple list, with key statistics of each kingdom, the DENAR they have that is unprotected and a simple button to attack them. Great!
You can also get items to improve your statistics and further improve. I'm looking forward to exploring them and hopefully get some legendary or ancient items!
In addition, alliances allow you to get additional bonusses and become stronger. And I'm sure more will come in the future.
Now what do I hope will be added/improved going forward?
And what do I hope will not happen?
Let me start with what I hope will not come:
- No lands concept please. I have not found a game, even Splinterlands, where it's working at the moment. Maybe sometime far in the future, but not now please.
- Do not add an overlay with an image or display of the armies battling. This just slows down the process of battling and doesn't add a lot of value, just graphics. Not a fan.
- No heroes concept. I love that it is an army. Not a hero supported by an army. The army should remain key.
- No magic. Don't start with fantasy. Keep it medieval realistic.
- Don't start with food/water. Don't make it too realistic. The timer is great, no need to explain what it represents.
Now what do I hope they add?
- a method to support a (random) army by by leaving a tag in a comment. So for example, if you tag !REND in an article or comment, and stake it, you get a DENAR drop. This is just an example, but getting some interaction with articles and comments will help. We saw it with SPT.
- Potentially add seasons (e.g. Summer, Autumn, Winter, Spring), that impacts some of the statistics. Winter reduces army speed. Summer increases army morale. Could also be temporary events once a week. Make it slightly dynamic.
- Keep the 3 day time requirement for spending DENAR. It only shows on a mouseover, but that is ok if you know about it. But use the decreased DENAR taxation for something to support active players. More incentives for the active players.
- Some more methods to burn DENAR in the game. Could be the excess of the 3 days time requirement. Could be based on donation. But ensure that DENAR doesn't drop in price and chests become too "cheap". Make a sinkhole, beyond the chests.
- Lastly, besides vacation mode, have a button to be "mercenary army". So if you are working, other armies can pay to use your army to do additional battles and collect DENAR. Stimulates interaction and the economic aspect of the game.
Really curious how the game will progress, but congratulations to the development team and the success they have achieved!
