Topic Review: I want to do God s will but how can I stop doing bad things? (Part 4 of 4) | The Old Path

    Bible scriptures: Galatians 1:13, 2 Corinthians 9:27

For a church to go on the right path, it needs the help of the Holy Spirit. Without the help of the Holy Spirit, the church loses direction. Brother Eli uses Apostle Paul as a case study in this teaching. Apostle Paul had a similar experience of trading the wrong path when he hadn't encountered the ministry of the Holy Spirit.

We learn in this teaching that Apostle Paul was once a member of the Judaism religion, which at that time seemed to be a good religion. But as time went on, it was revealed that it was actually a false religion. And then Jesus revealed Himself to Paul and then got him converted. Let's look at Galatians 1:13.

For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism—how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it.

Paul brings us to remembrance of his past life. While Paul lived this life, he caused pain to the lives of many. Before he encountered Christ, everything he did was by the influence of his flesh. His actions were all fulfillment of the will of his flesh.

That's why the Lord Jesus saw it necessary that he be washed of his sins. Paul's ability to dominate his body and its desires and to be a member of the church was with the help of the Holy Spirit. This made the flesh lose every dominion and control it had over Paul.

    1 Corinthians 9:27
No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

In this life, either we control our flesh or our flesh controls us, and the only way to successfully control the flesh is to let the Holy Spirit have control over us. The flesh and spirit are always in dispute against themselves. One seeks control over the other.

As humans, it is easy to lose yourself to the influence of the flesh. The minute we came into this world, we were subject to the flesh, and the flesh leads us to commit evil. The cravings of the flesh always lead to us committing evil.

For us to live life in fulfillment of God's will, we need to subject our flesh, just like Paul described in the book of Corinthians. Desiring to do God's will without denying the flesh of its desires and yielding to the Holy Spirit is a difficult and impossible task.

We need the help of the Holy Spirit to do His will at all times.
