According to an article I read on Google, mak megang is an original tradition from Aceh which began during the reign of King Iskandar Muda. The tradition of holding is the tradition of distributing slaughtered meat to all the people of Aceh for free at that time, but over time the tradition of holding was lost, perhaps due to its collapse. And the Mak Megang tradition is continued by some people who sell meat and some people buy it, to celebrate Megang.
The holding activity is slaughtering livestock such as cows to welcome the fasting day of Ramadan or the Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha holidays. Mak Megan's tradition is celebrated before the 2 days of the holy month of Ramadan, 2 days before Eid al-Fitr and 2 days before Eid al-Adha. This is different from usual days, where there are usually not many meat sellers and if there were many meat sellers there would definitely be few buyers, so the people of Aceh consume the most meat on Megang Day because they welcome a good day.
For several years ago, the government of Pantejaloh Village, Sawang subdistrict, North Aceh district. We have started the tradition of holding meat like in ancient times, such as in the Iskandar Muda era, where the Pantejaloh people did not have to buy Megang meat because our village government had paid attention to the difficulty of the people in buying meat, so the tradition of distributing meat on Megang day, which was done by Raja Iskandar Muda, has been implemented again. four times including this time.
