Most of the year this place is hidden under water

    Hello, friends!
Today I want to invite you to take a walk to the bottom of the Krasnoyarsk reservoir. No, you don’t need any special diving equipment; you can walk along the bottom, although only in the spring. During the winter, the Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric power station releases most of the water accumulated in the reservoir over the summer, and by the end of winter, the bottom is exposed in some places.

Sixty years ago and earlier, in the place where the car stands in the sandy desert, there was the village of Potroshilovo. It, like several dozen other villages, fell into the flood zone of the Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric power station reservoir. People moved to other villages and cities, and all the buildings were dismantled and taken away.

In my family archive I have a photograph of the buildings of the collective farm in the village of Potroshilovo, the early 1960s, several years before the flooding.

Now the fact that people once lived and worked in this place can only be guessed from the remains of building foundations visible here and there.

Or this fragment of a millstone. More and more interesting things have already been picked up here by search engines with metal detectors, which examine every meter of the surface here every spring. Although it is possible that someone will find something interesting, because in addition to the relatively modern village, in this area there were also ancient graves, which also went under water sixty years ago.

Mount Tepsey, rising above the current sandy desert, is considered sacred by the indigenous people of these places - the Khakassians. But you won’t be able to get to it on foot from this place; the mountain is cut off by canals and the Tuba River; to climb it you need to make a detour of about thirty kilometers. But we will talk about Mount Tepsei next time.
