There are stories in which you don’t know whether to feel sadness or rage. That happened to me with this movie, based on a true story about a writer of romance novels where the protagonists murdered their bad husbands, a woman with a mind to analyze the pros and cons of murdering that husband, so much so that she was able to write an article entitled “How to kill your husband”.
I started watching it because of the murder theme and didn’t know it was based on a true story. When I finished, it left me very thoughtful about the reasons a woman might have for being able to commit such an act to a man who according to the movie, did not deserve it, unlike the men in the stories in her books.
There are many reasons, but one and the most important not only in this type of murder, but in many, is money. How difficult the financial situation of an older couple can be, because the one involved is 71 years old and her husband is around 60. What can go through the mind of a woman of that age to meticulously plan the murder of the person she confesses to love and is proud that he also loves her with devotion.

Hay historias en las que no sabes si sentir tristeza o rabia. Eso me pasó con esta película, basada en una historia real sobre una escritora de novelas románticas donde las protagonistas asesinaban a sus malos maridos, una mujer con una mente para analizar los pros y los contras de asesinar a ese marido, tanto que fue capaz de escribir un artículo titulado “Cómo matar a tu marido”.
Empecé a verla por el tema del asesinato y no sabía que estaba basada en una historia real. Cuando terminé, me dejó muy pensativa sobre las razones que puede tener una mujer para ser capaz de cometer semejante acto a un hombre que, según la película, no se lo merecía, a diferencia de los hombres de las historias de sus libros.
Hay muchas razones, pero una y la más importante no sólo en este tipo de asesinato, sino en muchos, es el dinero. Qué difícil puede ser la situación económica de una pareja mayor, porque la implicada tiene 71 años y su marido ronda los 60. Qué puede pasar por la mente de una mujer de esa edad para planear meticulosamente el asesinato de la persona a la que confiesa amar y se enorgullece de que él también la ame con devoción.
So it is not only money, it also has a lot to do with the frustration of not being able to achieve professional recognition, feeling that her career does not bear the fruits for which she has worked and receiving criticism for her stories without a coherent sense, she feels dissatisfied with her life and dreams that it would be different but without risking anything, believing herself capable of imagining and capturing on a sheet a supposed murder, where she explains the motive, how and where to commit the crime, in the same way she is able to carry it out without being discovered. The only thing that this story teaches us is that it is not the same to imagine than to execute, it is necessary not only to have imagination but also a criminal mind.
Although in the real trial it was not allowed to take into account the article that the accused had written years before, in the film it is used as a confession of how the crime was planned, where textual fragments are presented narrated by the protagonist, who writes while doing the research to write the article.
When I say it made me sad it is because they present themselves as a normal couple, a loving and happy husband who is just trying to make her happy, but for her it is not enough and that for me is very sad, because after so many years together and being at an age where what is left is to live without worrying about a distant future, what need is there to prove that if you are able to write a story that could be feasible and that is the part that made me angry.
Así que no es solo dinero, también tiene mucho que ver la frustración de no poder alcanzar el reconocimiento profesional, sentir que su carrera no da los frutos por los que ha trabajado y recibir críticas por sus historias sin un sentido coherente, se siente insatisfecha con su vida y sueña que sería diferente pero sin arriesgar nada, creyéndose capaz de imaginar y plasmar en una hoja un supuesto asesinato, donde explica el móvil, cómo y dónde cometer el crimen, de la misma manera es capaz de llevarlo a cabo sin ser descubierta. Lo único que nos enseña esta historia es que no es lo mismo imaginar que ejecutar, es necesario no solo tener imaginación sino también una mente criminal.
Aunque en el juicio real no se permitió tener en cuenta el artículo que la acusada había escrito años antes, en la película se utiliza como confesión de cómo se planeó el crimen, donde se presentan fragmentos textuales narrados por la protagonista, que escribe mientras realiza la investigación para escribir el artículo.
Cuando digo que me entristeció es porque se presentan como una pareja normal, un marido cariñoso y feliz que sólo intenta hacerla feliz, pero para ella no es suficiente y eso para mí es muy triste, porque después de tantos años juntos y estando en una edad en la que lo que queda es vivir sin preocuparse por un futuro lejano, qué necesidad hay de demostrar que si eres capaz de escribir una historia que podría ser factible y esa es la parte que me dio rabia.
