WOES OF FORGETFULNESS

We all are humans who are prone to make mistakes. Being forgetful is one of them; one of the mistakes that we make against our will. Many times, this mistake could lead to some serious repercussions. A few times, we could always just let it slide.

I have been in situations of forgetfulness, some of which I beat myself up for. I felt very bad, but could I have done? I had to live with it and look for ways to make it up.
Today, I'd share two incidents when I was forgetful. Somehow, I think that I have shared the stories here, and I may be wrong. But I'll go again, by reason of what this prompt asks.

    The first incident...

It happened a while back, just a few years ago, while I was yet in the university. My third year, to be precise. It was during the exam period. There had been lots of shuffling and changing exam dates and venues prior. We had this paper, and long story short, first off, I forgot that the exam date was pushed forward. I was studying and had only picked my phone to make a call when I saw the notification from the class group that the attendance list was being called. I was so surprised and had to rush through preparation. I stayed off campus, so it wasn't a quick trip to school.

The second issue arose when I got to the venue, but it was a different department having their exams there. I was very confused. I called a course mates but he did not pick up and I just knew they were in the exam hall. I panicked. Then it occurred to me to check the exam timetable and I found that alongside moving the dates, they had changed the halls. I was so mad at myself for forgetting something like that. By this time, I was over thirty minutes behind time. I ran all the way to the new location, and I found them.

As with the behavior of many heads of authority, even after I explained my predicament to the invigilator, the man didn't let me go in. I tell you, it was so painful. It took a lot for me not to cry. I had studied well and was sure of excellent grades. The course was one of my best.

So the man made me stand outside, paying deaf ears to my plea and only let me in an hour to end of time. The questions were cheap, but there was little time available. The invigilator made me stop at the same time as everyone else. I didn't even finish answering the required number of questions. My palms were sweating, and i was in panic mode. Although it was my fault that what happened happened, I thought he should have been more merciful. I felt so terrible that day.
My result came out good, but I thought it should have been better.

After that incident, for every exam, i made sure to make a papercopy timetable with all the important details which i hang at a corner of my room within sight. It always helped.

    The second incident...

This one happened just about a month ago. I had made the journey to the village for a funeral. With me were my backpack and a handpack. Sometime when I arrived at the state's capital, I boarded a vehicle that would take me across the town to a park where I'd be catching a bus to bring me to my hometown. Unfortunately, when I got out of this vehicle and walked some distance, I realized I had just my backpack with me. I had forgotten the hand luggage in the vehicle. I turned around but did not find the vehicle, I walked around a bit in search of it to no avail. I couldn't even think of any way that I could find it, considering that it's a big city saturated with many similar-looking vehicles.

It was a very devastating situation, and I felt so bad. I had very important stuff in that bag, ranging from two pairs of new shoes I had bought, a new tailored suit I had gotten, some trousers, my groceries. It wasn't a mini bag, and most of what was in there were new and expensive. But there was nothing that I could do. My backpack did not hold much, so I had to manage wearing the few clothing in it.

Well, that only meant that going back home, not back to my base, but to my parents' place, I had to go shopping and spend money i did not plan to. I suffered loss due to my forgetfulness and it hurt me but it could happen to anybody.
