"Don't write me off because I came from the trenches," have you ever heard such a statement before?
I have heard it countless times, most times people associate one's background with their ability, they would rather choose someone from a wealthy home for special privileges over one who comes from the ghetto or trenches.
Last year, I visited a popular ghetto in the city of Lagos and honestly, life is not an easy one, so many depilated houses and the struggle is real, I have come around students who go to school with slippers, some do not even have a school bag yet they are so positive and happy even know they know they deserve better, the least one can do is to bring them down.
The children from the ghetto are like every other human, as we all know that life is just unfair but that doesn't define their destiny as I've heard of prominent people who came from trenches.
I have seen many sent away from school but damn, these kids are so intelligent and if only they'll see who would sponsor them through school, you will be amazed at how brilliant they are.
Some of these ghetto kids are just talented from birth, some are born artists, dressmakers, hairdressers, cobblers and the rest. Most of them have been forced to hustle for themselves at a very young age, some have acquired skills from a tender age just to be successful.
They always have a beaming eye looking forward to the bright side of life and whenever I come around them, I try to put a smile on their face the little way I can.
This is a very beautiful song that gives hope to people who come from a very poor background.
Joe sang about how a person's background doesn't define who they are and that everyone was born to be great and everyone has beautiful dreams, don't be the reason why someone is giving up on their dreams simply because you have written them off based on their background.
Due to the stereotype placed on people from a disadvantaged background, some resorted to illegal means to make money and to change their story.
This song reminds everyone to always stay positive and resilient no matter where they come from, and because one comes from a ghetto doesn't mean that their life is doomed.
Everyone needs to see the best in them and believe in themselves. Illegal means of making money are never an option, hard work and prayer are still the keys to success I believe that when one has an unmerited favour from God he will be chosen and become a star regardless of where he comes from.
A popular footballer Victor Osimhen who plays for Napoli and Nigeria is an inspiration to many because he came from the trenches, he told his story of how he hawked on the streets to make ends meet, according to him life was far from easy but he didn't give up on his dreams, he believed that one day things would change for good.
He kept honing his skills and one day everything fell into place for him, so there's so much hope ahead of everyone, so long as there is life, there is hope.
