Youtube: Waste of time or helpful to us.
I noticed that I am watching too many YouTube shorts, actually, sometimes it goes beyond a couple of hours where I keep scrolling down and down and keep watching the short videos that I guess that are generally less than 2 minutes. The real issue is that if someone keeps scrolling down and watching one video after another, then how can someone concentrate on other things? it looks like the important things that need to be taken care of are left out due to this, and tasks become pending for the future.
On the other hand, I used YouTube for preparation of my certificate exams, viewed so many stuff that helped me to do the stuff myself, not only in professional life but also in personal life. There is so much good informational content available on Youtube for free. Interestingly, YouTube has so much to offer to the person of every age and every walk of life. I was surprised to see that YouTube has very good study material and explainer videos for school-going children. Not only I read about the stuff but sometimes I check for some good food recipes to try at home and interestingly, so many videos are available, it give me freedom to innovate and experiment in kitchen from taking ideas from all of them.
Beneficial if used correctly.
I guess if we do use the YouTube for our targeted learning then it is a very good platform, I find so many videos on the same topic, that really help in the good understanding of the concept.
Very addictive and causes wastage of time.
But on the same note, as I earlier mentioned that YouTube has so much variety of content, that included entertainment content also. Entertainment content on YouTube is so enticing that you can keep watching them for hours that can cause you to postpone your necessary work.
Beware of the scams and fake influencers in YouTube
I think for tutorial learning, it is a good platform but if you are following someone, then make sure to verify the credentials of the person and I will suggest not to follow their advice blindly. Look like most of them selling useless courses and selling big dreams to the users. All of this fraud and scheme is packaged in multiple layers where you will lured with a very cheap course costing only pennies and once you buy that cheap course then they will sell the big dreams and courses with hefty fees.
In some cases these influencers also promote bad products, making sells from their affiliate links that help them to earn but cause the followers to lose money.
My 2 cents.
I will say, in the end, it is our responsibility to use the platform sensibly so that you will get the benefit from the platform instead of wasting your time and losing your money.
