A Week Of Problem Solving

Perfect size and more importantly a perfect price.

This week has been about finding solutions for various problems with regards to the business. Those that have been following my business posts will know we have secured the stuffing for the punch bags having partnered up with a manufacturing company who would like to find a use case for their waste.

This was great news, but also comes with it's problems mainly because they use a skip. If I had to replace the same type of skip on a rental basis the skip company makes their money from collections and deliveries of empty bins. This would not be the case here as we would collect the material twice per week not requiring the skip to be collected. Hence the result is no one wants to rent us a skip.

The material waste is basically free besides a small donation and do not want to now suddenly be paying thousands to have a rental waste bin in place because that is what it would cost. The waste material is in large bags which helps and in the mean time I have asked them to place this one side whilst I arrange for collection twice per week.

The only solution is to buy my own waste skip and fortunately after a few days of searching have found a solution. Financially this is actually pretty good having to only outlay R4K or $220 for a mini waste skip which is 3 cubic meters and sufficient for now. This is the equivalent of half a skip which are 6 cubic meters, but cost so much more. If needed we can always place 2 mii skips on site, but the man in charge on site thinks one will suffice. The cost is not really a cost as it can be written off against taxes and that is what will happen.

My daughter had been stressing about this and was not sure what to do and was happy to intervene and get it sorted. I have arranged we start collecting waste material from next week and in the mean time they will place the bagged waste material separately away from their rubbish. We will then collect 2 or 3 x per week depending on volume.

The next part is to offer them the payment per bag of waste material and I need to see the size of bags plus the weight before that happens. This requires me to go on site and see with my own eyes what we are dealing with in order to make this happen and will do this next week. Just because this is going to be a charitable social community driven project the purchase cannot be a real low ball affair and need to be fairish on this.

I also did not want to be collecting waste material weeks before our own manufacturing material arrived because I had visions of ten tons of waste material sitting in a big pile which our insurance company would not be happy about due to being a fire hazard. They are strict on certain materials like rubber and fabrics and why I delayed collection until next week as we are still two weeks out from the other material arriving. How many tons we will have when manufacturing actually starts I have no clue, but it is a good problem to have.

This is a win win for both parties involved because this is a solution that prevents waste going to the land fill and can be re used in another form.
