Always Look Down

The other day I wrote a snap with the following photo:

I wrote in the snap that whenever I enter a room with tatami, I feel compelled to take a similar photo.

It's not that tatami is attractive (it is) but is more about wanting to line up everything neatly. Well, maybe. It is true that I often feel the need to line snap straight lines when they produce nice simple patterns.

Even if I'm not so careful in lining them up perfectly

As a lover of minimalism, there is just something striking about the simplicity of these basic patterns

Our world is surrounded by them, after all. Look around and you see them everywhere

Sometimes in still, but sometimes in motion

But it doesn't just have to be straight lines. These simple minimalist patterns come in all flavors

Hmm... maybe I should save some of these for #shadowhunters. Ah well.

Sometimes I like to play with the form. The iPhone is great for that. Long ago I used a Holga for more experimental, artistic photos. My Holga is packed up somewhere, probably at my parent's house in the US, and has been out of my hands for years. But the iPhone helps me mimic things like double exposure

I do use my dslr for more minimal photography too

But the I do tend to gravitate to the iPhone for these simpler photos. I'm not sure exactly why that is.

By the way, the plum blossoms have bloomed and they are beautiful!
