Fear is human's worst enemy

As humans, we are not created equally; many of us, or should I say every human, have one or two things they are scared of. Sometimes courage is required to undertake some tasks as humans, because they might be things we are scared of but have no choice but to dazzle into them and get them done.

Sometimes the challenges of life change our mentality about many things, and when this happens, some get healed while others are left mentally derailed for life. Taking a child who lost his or her parents and siblings in one day, that tragedy will leave such a child mentally unstable for life if care is not taken, unless he or she is being properly taken care of by undergoing different therapy sessions.

As humans, there are things that get us pissed; we can't avoid them; they must surely happen in one way or another in the journey of life. This does happen to me when things aren't going my way. I get pet peeves from many things.

Phobia is an anxiety disorder and irrational fear towards simple things. Yeah, that's right, though there are things that one shouldn't be afraid of, yet we are afraid of them. But the question now is: why? "Is it because we haven't tried them out before; that's why we are afraid of them and think we can't succeed at them?" I do ask myself this.

Taking myself as an example, I have a phobia for water, darkness, and height. You will never see me near water. I don't go to swimming pools, though I wish I could swim, but I still will not dare go near a pool. I do imagine myself on a bungee jump, but no, I can't, and I don't think I would ever try that because that's my biggest fear of all. Lastly, darkness is the main reason I don't go out at night; once it's getting late, I'm already indoors because I fear darkness. I don't know why, but I do.

It's not as if all these things listed are bad; no, they are not, but I've programmed them in my head and tagged them as things that I cannot do, therefore manifesting it in reality that I cannot because I chose to believe I have a phobia for them. I'm looking forward to a day when I will personally try these things out and see how they feel.

Just as I said earlier, the challenges of life and past experiences leave some people mentally unstable for life. I learned that phobia can also cause a mental disorder, which is responding irrationally to trivial things, making a big deal out of a mole hill. It is like their phobia passing a wrong message to their brain.

Every action we take has a relationship with our brain. A mentally unstable person will not relate well to things as expected by a sane person, which makes it easier to differentiate. A depressed person battling with mood swings won't find what a sane person thinks funny enough for him or her.

    Possible solutions for the phobia

There are a few things that could be done to alleviate phobias, among which are:

    • Exposure therapy or cognitive behavioral therapy
    • Support group
    • Psychotherapy
    • Talking to someone you trust

Among these, exposure therapy is one of the best ways to get rid of one's phobia. These focus on changing one's response to things one fears. I believe once I try out swimming, bungee jumping, and walking at night, I won't fear them anymore.
Phobia, mental disorders, and pets work hand in hand, and if one is cured, the rest will be cured as well, because they all contribute to one another.

Thanks for your time, and your comments will be appreciated.
