    v0.38 - 'The Mega Update'

    Character Upgrades + Customization

    Our next update will include our brand new character, featuring all new animations in a significantly lighter package! The new avatars are still metahumans, but represent a huge step forward for KOMPETE nonetheless. Players can expect significant improvements in the look and feel of gameplay. In addition, the resource demands for these new characters are much lower, meaning that FPS and performance will improve across the board. This means mid-tier mobile phones can now run the game! The team has also added a variety of new preset heads and hair options to choose from!

    Player Build System + New Flow

    KOMPETE is introducing a detailed new build system, giving players the chance to level up specific builds for their character from 90 to 99 overall through gameplay or purchases. This system is unprecedented in battle royales, and will add significant depth and replayability to the game. The experimentation is endless with up to 30 builds per game mode, and content creators will have a brand new opportunity for engaging, viral content as they search for the best setups. A new onboarding process will guide players in selecting a game mode, creating their first build, and learning through a tutorial, ensuring they're aware of the game's depth.

    iOS Launch

    We're all set to go with our iOS launch, and will submit v0.38 for approval to the Apple App Store as soon as the new update goes live. We expect the approval process to go smoothly, however there is no exact timeline for how long it might take. We'll be sure to update the community as soon as we send it through! This expansion is a huge accessibility milestone for the team and brings in a massive new opportunity to attract players .

    Environment Improvements

    The team has been working hard to improve the visual quality and immersive feel of Mahzookoo Island. Players can expect improvements to the foliage (plants) on the map, most noticeably with our hedges. We've also started implementing more detailed audio into the game! As an example, players who are inside of a building will experience gunshots outside to sound more muffled than before.

    Tournaments

    You asked and we listened! We are thrilled to announce that we expect to roll out our initial prototype for cash tournaments with the newest update! We plan to start simple, rewarding top players who accumulate the most wins and XP during a specific play period with KOMPETE Token. We'll add additional complexity and look for collaboration opportunities here as we test and see what works best.

    Game Development Next Steps

    New Weapons, Items, Skins, Apparel
    A major goal for the team is to consistently deliver new content. Players can expect to see a range of new weapons and utility items coming in future updates. We've already been hard at work creating multiple new shotguns, a scoped AR, and SMGs, along with a few new utility items we can't wait to share. In addition, expect to see a brand new set of cosmetics. We've got tons of new apparel and skins we can't wait to push out to the community.

    Basketball

    The biggest focus moving forward regarding gameplay will be Basketball. A good chunk of the development is done - UI, game mechanics, ball physics, courts, and cameras are all ready to go. Our next step is to create a custom controller, which will allow our animations to flow smoothly from one to the next. We've also got more work to do cleaning up the animations we've collected over the last two years. This will be a long grind for us, but rest assured, we will always strive for the highest quality in this game mode.

    Consoles

    v0.38 will conclude a majority of the major development work we needed to complete for our mobile builds. Next, all attention will go to console! We'll start with PlayStation, and have already acquired the development kit and done most all administrative work. We expect this process to be much smoother than our mobile ports, and will keep the community updated as we go!

    Mahzookoo Island + PCG Tools

    One of the team's most consistent focuses has been growing and improving Mahzookoo Island. Our next plans for Mahzookoo include altering the landscape fairly significantly, adding in more drastic elevation changes to reduce long lines of sight, with the addition of more defined paths between the POIs for navigation. We're also focused on creating procedural generation tools (PCG) to dramatically speed up our ability to grow the island. These tools automate much of the more tedious work our artists were doing manually in the past.

    Secret Game Mode

    We're not ready to leak any details quite yet, but the team has officially started work on our latest new game mode! This will likely be our biggest undertaking yet, adding brand new landscapes and play styles. We've worked through a chunk of the initial game design and environment planning already, and we plan to continue chipping away in the coming months!

    Game Economy

    Play and Earn
    A few weeks ago, KOMPETE introduced a brand new way for players to earn KOMPETE Token. In the new Fame season, the first 15 players to reach the highest rank, GOAT, will receive $500 worth of KOMPETE Token as a reward. So far, only two players have completed the grind, leaving 13 spots still open for the taking. It's important to note that the tokens awarded will not be newly minted but will come from the team's reserves, which is considered the best method for distribution.

    Konvert

    We successfully stealth launched the first version of Konvert, available to Founding Fathers and top token holders. The initial rollout was limited to ensure everything was working properly, and so far so good! Konvert allows players to transform their web2 game items into NFTs via their locker on our website. This is first-of-its-kind tech, and we look forward to officially announcing on our social media platforms soon! Expect Konvert to open up to all players over the next few weeks.

    Bazaar

    The team is thrilled to announce that all development and testing of our Bazaar is complete! The team is planning to release V1 of our Bazaar sometime next week. This is a huge step forward for our game economy, and provides a huge new utility for KOMPETE Token! Players should expect V1 of the Bazaar to be fairly basic, with new features like consolidated orders and detailed market statistics rolled out over time.

    Base Integration

    Integrating Base into the game economy has been a big focus over the past few months. So far, KOMPETE Token has been fully integrated (with bridge here) and our NFT and Marketplace contracts have also been deployed. Our next steps include adding a network switch to our website, along with integrating Base as an option for our game shops, Konvert, and the Bazaar. We are loving the cheap fees and good vibes of the Base ecosystem!

    Marketing Updates

    AMAs + Ads

    We've continued to prioritize direct engagement with existing and prospective players via the direct outreach of AMAs as well as expansive ad campaigns. In the last week alone, Ethan and Connor participated in a number of discussions with the likes of MadApes, SatoshiVerse, JuanX, Kearney / G3gens, Ardoxus, and more! We also continue to run ads across most major social platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Google, Youtube, Tiktok, and X. We've continually optimized our ad campaigns over the last 18+ months, and now have scalable opportunities to affordably grow our playerbase when the time is right.

    Game Analytics

    Tracking players - both where they come from and how they play - has been an important part of directing KOMPETE's marketing decisions. We have recently put in additional work that gives us an even more granular look into these important metrics.

    Tournaments

    We plan to use our new Tournament system as a way to connect with other communities and projects and get them playing KOMPETE. We'll look to start utilizing this opportunity as soon as v0.38 is live. The initial plan includes hosting private cash tournaments for specific communities to participate in.

    Partnerships

    Our new 'gated' shops give us the chance to provide game content exclusively to other communities that hold particular tokens or NFTs. We are excited to incorporate visual assets from these projects into our game, giving the opportunity for new communities to come in and 'make their mark' on our game visually with custom cosmetics.

    CEX Listings

    We have begun exploring the necessary requirements for exchange listings and have established initial contacts with several CEXs. At this stage, we are merely putting out feelers and starting to build relationships. Each CEX has unique requirements and points of contact, so we are currently conducting our due diligence. Please keep in mind that there are currently no specific timelines for exchange listings, but we are optimistic we will see them sometime in 2024.

    Playerbase, Ticket, Fame Stats

    Steady Player Engagement

    Average daily players remained roughly equal to last month at 645, our third month of consistent daily player counts with no meaningful adjustments to our ad spend.

    Growing Player Base

    Again in the last month we saw over 15,000 new players download and play KOMPETE! We've now hosted over 75,000 unique players since Early Access began!

    Increased Session Times

    Thanks in part to the new Play and Earn opportunities, we saw our average session time grow to an hour and fifteen minutes over the last month. This is up ~15% since last month.

    March Ticket

    In March, 700 players unlocked the Ticket, with 67 players completing all 15 levels! This is the highest completion percentage we've had, shoutout to all the grinders!

    Season 0 Fame

    Our first ever Fame season that began in December has come to a close, and the stats are in! We had over 55,000 people start the Season 0 Grind, with over a thousand achieving the second rank of Amateur. Those numbers quickly fell off at the higher levels, with only 141 making it to level 3 (Pro), 94 to level 5 (Legend), and 40 who made it all the way to GOAT! Congratulations to those who put in the work!

    Conclusion

    We can't wait to push v0.38 soon, appropriately known as our 'Biggest Update Ever!" The improvements to KOMPETE as a result of this upgrade, most notably the character, map tools, and tournaments, will change the way the game looks and feels forever! It hasn't been an easy road to get here, but we can truly say that with this next update we will have built the foundation we need to be successful.
