Observation of swallowtail butterfly larvae

I remember observing swallowtail butterflies in the tangerine trees in our schoolyard when I was in elementary school. The eggs turn, become larvae, and metamorphose repeatedly while eating many tangerine leaves, finally becoming pupae, and then transforming into butterflies. I have a kumquat tree in my mom's garden. The other day, at my Sambo's request, we planted a yuzu tree. Both kumquat and yuzu are citrus fruits, and swallowtail butterflies came to lay their eggs on them.

小学生の時に校庭のミカンの木に来るアゲハチョウの観察を授業で行ったのを覚えています。卵がかえり、幼虫になりミカンの葉をたくさん食べながら変態を繰り返し、最後はサナギになり、そして蝶へと変身します。オカンの庭にキンカンの木を植えています。先日はサンボのリクエストもあり、ユズの木を植えました。キンカンもユズも柑橘類で、アゲハチョウが卵を産み落としに来ていました。

The eggs have turned, and the tiny black-and-white contrasting larvae have begun munching on kumquat leaves. In a way, I am impressed that they can eat so well with such a small body. They are doing well, even enduring a day of heavy rain.

卵がかえって、黒と白のコントラストのある小さな幼虫がキンカンの葉っぱをむしゃむしゃと食べ始めました。結構食べていて、こんな小さな体で良く食べるなぁーとある意味、感心してしまいます。大雨の日も耐えて、元気にしています。

I have a pawpaw tree that I planted a long time ago in my mom's garden. The popo is a tree native to North America, and it has been about 10 years this year since I planted a seedling I bought from an online retailer.

It seems that the pawpaw tree finally started to bear fruit last year. I did not actually see them, but according to my Okan, about three of them grew for the first time. They tasted like bananas, with a sticky sweet flavor that spread in the mouth.

オカンの庭に私が昔、植えたポポと言う木が植えています。ポポは北米原産の木で、ネット通販で買った苗を植えて今年で１０年程度が経過します。

そのポポの木がやっと昨年から実をつけるようになったようです。実際には見ていないのですが、オカン曰く、３つ程、初めてなったようです。味はバナナに似たねっとりした甘い風味が口に広がる味だったようです。

Have you ever heard of a plant called mukago? I think it is the fruit of yam, but it is a vine plant, and after flowering, a small potato-like plant is roasted and eaten, which is delicious with a sweet taste. That mukago has sprouted again this year. I planted it under a plum tree, and every year my Okan seems to harvest the mukago by wrapping the ivy around its trunk. The five years away from Osaka seems to have been a short but long time, and the trees have grown big and the poppo trees have started to bear fruits.

ムカゴと言う植物を知っていますか？山芋の実だと思っているのですが、蔓の植物で、小さな芋のような植物が開花後になって、それを炒って食べるとほっこりした甘味がある美味しいです。そのムカゴが今年も芽を出しました。スモモの木の下に植えたのですが、オカンは毎年、その幹に蔦を巻き付かせてムカゴを収穫しているようです。大阪を離れていた5年は短いようで長い期間で、木々は大きく育ち、ポポも実をつける様になったようです。
