A little bit selfish // LOH contest #178

While making decisions in our personal lives, we often consider these two phrases: "family comes first" and "I am my top priority," as they can significantly influence our decisions. Traditionally, as we grow up, we're often taught to prioritize our family in all aspects of life. At times, we allow our families to make important, long-term decisions for us, sacrificing our own happiness to please them.

However, there has been a recent emphasis on the importance of self-love and prioritizing oneself. Even the Bible instructs us to "Love your neighbor as yourself," not more than ourselves and this implies that self-love is fundamental.
In an age where individuals face numerous challenges and hardships, neglecting oneself can be detrimental and toxic.

Personally, I believe that to love others fully, one must first love oneself. I know selflessness is admirable, self-love is equally important because, without it, we cannot adequately love our families. We cannot give what we do not have.

It's crucial to prioritize ourselves as it enables us to make better decisions in various aspects of life, such as career and relationships. This not only fosters independence but also facilitates personal growth; physically, mentally, financially, and emotionally. Additionally, prioritizing oneself allows us to be a better role model for our families.

Putting oneself first aids in achieving goals and creating meaningful lives in the long term. It empowers us to face challenges, boosting confidence, self-worth, independence, and self-reliance. These skills are essential for personal development and cannot be developed without prioritizing oneself.

In conclusion, everything in life has its good and bad side. Prioritizing oneself also can lead to selfishness and pride. While, putting your family first can encourage love, honor, and reliability in a family. However, I think it is important to balance the two. A little bit selfish, a little bit selfless
