Si eres alguien que ha tenido la suerte de contar con tus amigos de infancia durante toda la vida, entonces habrás experimentado el gozo que proporciona disfrutar de los buenos momentos compartidos con esos amigos. Y como buenos amigos seguro han compartido y se han apoyado también en los momentos difíciles.
Es por eso que cuando supe que David padece una compleja enfermedad me dispuse a apoyarlo en lo posible. Primero aportándole mis conocimientos de medicina naturopatica y además correspondiendo a su pedido de que le comprará frutas para su dieta, pues en su ciudad es difícil conseguirlas....
David es un hermano que la vida me regaló, desde que nacimos en nuestra natal Isla de la Juventud. Así con el paso de los años hemos mantenido la hermandad que empezó con los juegos en la infancia hasta el apoyo actual en cuestiones familiares y profesionales.
Decidí entonces viajar hasta la Isla de la Juventud, para llevarle algunos medicamentos homeopáticos y una variedad de frutas para su alimentación. Un huracán paso hace pocos meses por la Isla y la agricultura sufrió muchos daños, por lo que escasean los alimentos.
Por suerte del destino logré conseguir un boleto de avión. Nótese que solamente hay vuelos martes y jueves, por lo que es difícil volar hasta la Isla. El día 11 de febrero llegué a mi querida Isla natal.
Este es el Hospital Héroes del Baire donde nacimos David y yo hace más de 50 años. Es el Hospital General y único de la Isla que cuenta también con varios policlínicos y consultorios del médico de la familia. Es en esta institución donde él está recibiendo el tratamiento para recuperarse de su enfermedad.
Caminando por el centro de la ciudad tomé fotos para mostrarles el parque principal de Nueva Gerona (capital de la Isla de la juventud) y las construcciones a su alrededor. Este parque era nombrado Plaza de armas o Isabel Segunda en los tiempos en que Cuba era colonia española. Posteriormente fue nombrado Parque Lacret, en honor al general mambí José Lacret Morlot. En los años 60 del pasado siglo es demolido para convertirlo en la Plaza Guerrillero Heroico en homenaje a Ernesto Che Guevara. Pero a fines de 1990 se decide su reconstrucción, recuperando su anterior estructura y es reinaugurado el 15 de mayo del 2000 con el nombre anterior del General mambí José Lacret, hasta nuestros días.
A uno de los costados del parque se encuentra el Cine Caribe. Inaugurado el 23 de diciembre de 1965, nace como un edificio moderno con todas las facilidades para disfrutar cómodamente del séptimo arte. Hace pocos años fue remodelado para ofrecer también espectáculos de danza y teatro. El mismo acoge el festival Isla Verde. Un festival de internacional de cine y medio ambiente del caribe.
La secundaria José Rafael Varona, se ubica en otro de los lados del parque. Recuerdo que décadas atrás la mayoría de las escuelas de secundaria estaban localizadas en la zona campo de la Isla y los estudiantes permanecían en ellas durante toda la semana, realizando además labores agrícolas, pasando solo los fines de semana en casa.
Al lado de la secundaria, frente a una de las esquinas del parque esta situada la iglesia católica Nuestra Señora de los Dolores y San Nicolás de Bari. Esta edificación tiene sus orígenes en el siglo XIX, y fue dañada y destruida varias veces por huracanes que azotaron la Isla en distintas décadas, obligando así a varios procesos reconstructivos. La versión que llegó hasta nuestros días fue bendecida por el arzobispo de la Habana el 29 de septiembre de 1929.
Estas imágenes son las que más nostalgia me provocan. Pertenecen a la Escuela Elemental de Arte "Leonardo Luberta". Situada frente a otro de los lados del Parque Lacret. Aquí los niños inician los estudios de musica y danza , aunque cuando yo era pequeño también se estudiaba Artes Plásticas. La historia cuenta que me presenté a los exámenes cuando tenía 11 años y desaprobe la prueba, pero motivado por estudiar allí, me presenté nuevamente a los pocos días y fui descubierto por un profesor quien fue generoso conmigo y me dió la oportunidad de repetir el examen. Así logré aprobar en el segundo intento e iniciar mis estudios sobre arte.
Ya nos va quedando un solo lado del parque, frente al que se encuentra el Museo Municipal, otrora Ayuntamiento de la ciudad de Nueva Gerona. Actualmente alberga las oficinas de patrimonio y las áreas del Museo donde podrás encontrar distintas salas con objetos y contenidos que muestran la historia de la isla en sus diferentes etapas históricas. Desde los aborígenes, los piratas, la colonización española, la República y la etapa actual.
Ya tengo casi 15 días en esta isla que tanto amo. Vine sin boleto de regreso y debido a la poca frecuencia de viajes de barcos y aviones se está extendiendo mi estancia. Eso lo compensa la calidez de los amigos y la familia. Nada reconforta tanto el alma como disfrutar de la compañía de aquellos que te quieren incondicionalmente. También aprovecho las horas cumpliendo un viejo sueño de crear aquí una comunidad de Hivers. En pocos días ya son 5 los amigos que tienen cuenta en Hive y otros 4 están en proceso. Intento enseñarles lo más posible para que puedan después ayudar a otros. Hive ha conquistado un nuevo territorio insular y no pasará mucho para que podamos hacer un evento offchain de Hivers en medio del mar Caribe.
