Today marks 13 years since the Great East Japan Earthquake occurred. On New Year's Day this year, a major earthquake occurred on the Noto Peninsula. In addition, earthquakes have been occurring in many parts of Japan recently.
I have disposed of my disaster prevention goods when I moved to a new house, so I have to buy them again. However, what always confuses me is that there are so many things to do to prepare for disasters.
It depends on where you evacuate to when disaster strikes. I do not have a car and cannot drive, so I cannot stay in my car. It would be nice if I could stay at home, but I may have to go to a shelter. I can't take much luggage to an evacuation shelter.
In such a situation, I recently acquired a radio for emergency use.
It is a radio with a light. It is a conspicuous orange color and has an SOS button that emits a loud sound when pressed. It can be powered by solar, hand crank, or USB. This is a bit of a problem. The reason is that batteries cannot be used. If the power goes out, I can't use the power supply from the outlet, and, and if it is not sunny, the solar power supply cannot be used. The only way is to use hand-cranked power generation. Hand crank power must be turned twice a second, or 120 times a minute. This is quite a hard task.
I think you can take plenty of AA and AAA batteries with you, so if you want to take a radio with a light to an evacuation shelter, I think a radio with a light that can use dry cell batteries would be a better choice. USB power can be recharged with a mobile battery, but even that will be limited if there is a power outage.Hand-cranked power generation is a last resort.

今日で東日本大震災が起こってから13年になりました。今年の正月には能登半島で大きな地震が起きました。また、最近は日本各地で地震が起こっています。
私は引っ越しで防災グッズは処分してしまったので、もう一度買い直しです。しかしいつも迷うのは、防災への備えって随分たくさんやることがあるのだなということです。
そもそも災害が起きたらどこに避難するかにもよるでしょう。私は自動車を持っていないし運転もできないので、車中泊はできません。自宅にいられればいいですが、避難所へ行かなければいけないかもしれません。避難所だと大して荷物を持っていけません。
そんな中、最近防災用のラジオを入手しました。
ライト付きのラジオです。よく目立つオレンジ色で、押すと大きな音が出るSOSボタンもついています。給電方式がソーラー、手回し、USB給電です。これはちょっと困ります。何故かというと乾電池が使えないからです。停電するとコンセントからの給電は使えませんし、晴れてくれないとソーラーも使えません。すると手回し発電しかありません。手回し発電は1秒間に2回、1分間に120回の速さで回さないといけません。これが結構しんどいです。
乾電池は単三、単四ならたくさん持って行けると思うので、避難所へ持って行くなら乾電池が使えるライト付きラジオの方がいいかなと思います。USB給電はモバイルバッテリーがあれば充電できますが、停電したらそれにも限りが出てきますし。手回し発電は最終手段ですね。
