Babies will only eat what they like:my experience feeding my baby
Babies are special gifts to families and one must be careful when handling them. They're delicate creatures that require proper attention. They must eat well to grow and be healthy. Caregivers must monitor what they give to them and ensure that they meet up with the standard given by healthcare workers.
Back to this week's prompt, my readers may wonder if I have a baby yet. Well, I may not have a baby yet but I have taken care of a baby and that happened to be my younger sibling, Martha. When she was still a baby, feeding her was a Herculean task and every time she was about to be fed, she would cry till neighbours would come out to find out what the problem could be. It happened for some time till we decided to change her meal. The truth is that not all babies love to eat canned foods. Some of them prefer natural cereal mixtures. So whenever you coerce your baby to eat a food that she protests by crying and wailing knowing that she does not like the food hence, you should try something else.
There is so much natural food, that caregivers and mothers can try it on their babies. So long as those foods are healthy for the child and most times certified by nutritionists. One mistake made by mothers is that they force their babies to eat food. Hunger is a natural phenomenon and when a person is hungry the person must eat without being coerced. The same applies to babies, when they're hungry, they must eat. Hence, their refusal to eat means that they do not like that food.
Our younger sibling after six months of exclusive breastfeeding, we began to give her custard. Every day we will have to struggle and fight before she eats. After some time, we tried maize flour, but nothing changed, after some time, we tried mixed cereals, but the baby still refused to eat. At last, we attempted to give her a meal prepared using unripe bananas only for her to eat effortlessly. That became her meal till she clocked a year old. Then we began to give her another food.
The fact is that no special skill is required for a baby to be fed, it's natural for them to eat when they're hungry and also if they find that food fascinating.
Evidence is there to show if the child does not like the food. First of all, the baby will find it difficult to eat. Most times the baby will spit out the food. The height of it will be a total rejection of the food. They will begin to cry every time it's time for food. These are enough for one to know that the baby does not like the food. Hence when this happens one should begin to look for alternatives. Remember that this alternative should be within the purview of recommended diets for babies.
