Recently, the chief minister of our state, announced a monetory scheme, offering Rs.1000 ($12) per month to every women in the age bracket between 18-50 years.
Women receive a monthly amount of Rs.1000, which is deposited directly into their bank accounts by the 15th of every month. This amounts to an annual payment of Rs.12000 per women.
So every women in the state who are in this age bracket can avail the benefit. Assuming every household has 2 women, so each household get approx Rs.2000 I.e $24 every month. By announcing this scheme, the state government is giving away freebies to every home. People are interestingly filling up the required documents to avail the offer. Who does not want free money. But how the Government will manage the funding.?

While the scheme was launched, with a view to support women from economically weaker sections and improve their social and economic conditions. There is rush from every section of the society to get the benefits. Now almost every women are availing this offer, irrespective of the facts, if they belongs from weaker section or richer section of the society.
In my personal opinion the scheme was launched by the government, few months before the state election only to woo the voters. They are doing so to bring them in power again. Now with the ongoing election season there is a twist to this scheme. The political parties are coming up with election manifestos of doubling the monthly amount. So if they win they increase the monthly amount to Rs.2000. Assuming a household has 2 women, so they get Rs.4000 per month without doing anything.
Vote for Cash!
The election season began in the state and the political parties are not letting any stone unturned in wooing the voters. The tussle for power is showing some cheap as well as some smart faces of the political leader. Each of the party are showing their strength by organising mass rallies on the street. The party supporters are running after the leader for the sake of some snacks and some fuel money. Political parties are spending huge on showing their supremacy. It was only Yesterday that a political party held a 2km long rally on the city roads, creating chaos and traffic, still noone is bothered to raise any concern. The election in my state has alwsys been a hot topic, where everyone either kids or adults are ready for open discussion.
Now with the free money scheme, each of the parties are trying to win the voter trust. This is a newest concept to woo the voters by offering free cash. While "vote for cash" was an old concept, where the political parties offers cash to the voters who vote for them. But after the election commission put some restriction, the parties are coming up with this new ideas. They are adding free money offer in their election manifestos to be in line with election critirias. It is strange how these parties finds an alternative way of dealing with such things.
How good is the free money.
While sipping a cup of tea, todays evening, I found two differrnt aspect from the public. While many people supports the scheme some raises concern. While the concern is correct to the extent that managing the funding of thr scheme going to be challenge for the eullung party. If the parties continue with the scheme how could they arange so much fund. It is not about a particula home or famiky, but for the entire state with lakes of women population.
On the other hand some people thinks that the scheme will make the people lazy, as they can easily getting money without doing anything. Some people may choose to work less if they receive a guaranteed income, potentially impacting the labor force.
I personally belive, that offering "free money" to the public is "good" depends largely on the context, including the source of the funds, how it's distributed, and the intended purpose. While it can provide immediate relief to individuals in need, it can also have negative economic consequences like inflation and reduced work incentives, and may not address the root causes of poverty if not implemented strategically. People will show less intent towards work or earning making them lethargic.
It would be great to see how the power shifts and which political parties comes to power, but whosoever comes the people of the state will be happy getting free money.
Peace!!
