Hola amigos de la comunidad Hive, hace unos días atrás, visité por motivos laborales, la localidad de Velazco, perteneciente al municipio holguinero de Gibara. Después de concluida la reunión de trabajo, me informaron que debía esperar el transporte de regreso a la ciudad, el cual demoraría un poco. Conociendo que disponía de un tiempo libre, decidí caminar para conocer el centro del pueblo. La calle principal está rodeada de comercios y vendedores ambulantes de alimentos, pero hubo una edificación , ubicada casi al finalizar la calle, que me llamó muchísimo mi atención, al preguntar a un transeúnte que era, me dijo: es la casa de la cultura de Velazco.
Hello friends of the Hive community, a few days ago, I visited for work reasons, the town of Velazco, belonging to the municipality of Gibara in the province of Holguín. After concluding the work meeting, I was informed that I had to wait for transportation back to the city, which would take a while. Knowing that I had some free time, I decided to walk around the center of town. The main street is surrounded by stores and street food vendors, but there was a building, located almost at the end of the street, which caught my attention, when I asked a passerby what it was, he told me: it is the house of culture of Velazco.
Debido a la mejestuosidad y belleza de esta obra arquitectónica decidí indagar sobre ella y fui hasta el lugar para intentar acceder, pero estaba cerrado para el público, aunque si me permitieron caminar por sus patios interiores. Gracias a mi curiosidad pude conocer que esta edificación fue promovida por Félix Varona Sicilia, promotor cultural de Velazco en los años 80 del siglo pasado y ejecutada por un arquitecto norteamericano radicado en la ciudad de Santiago de Cuba por aquella época.
Due to the majesty and beauty of this architectural work I decided to inquire about it and went to the place to try to access, but it was closed to the public, although I was allowed to walk through its inner courtyards. Thanks to my curiosity I was able to learn that this building was promoted by Felix Varona Sicilia, cultural promoter of Velazco in the 80's of the last century and executed by an American architect based in the city of Santiago de Cuba at that time.
Una de las características más relevantes que tiene esta construcción es que sobresale en ella el uso de ladrillos, en una de sus vistas laterales se aprecia el uso de vidrieras dándole un poder visual muy atractivo. Otra de las características principales, es la forma triangular que posee la cubierta haciendo uso de la teja francesa.
One of the most relevant characteristics of this construction is the use of bricks, and in one of its lateral views the use of stained glass windows can be appreciated, giving it a very attractive visual power. Another of the main characteristics is the triangular shape of the roof using French tiles.
El arquitecto de esta fabulosa obra llamado Walter Betancourt Fernández, tuvo la genialidad de realizar las paredes en forma de figuras geométricas, apreciándose rectángulos, trapecios y cuadrados otorgándoles una experiencia acogedora y llamativa a las técnicas empleadas en su construcción. Esta casa de la cultura tiene un estilo arquitectónico ecléctico y gótico por tener semejanza a las construcciones militares coloniales y el uso del rosetón que es una ventana circular de gran tamaño, adornada con diferentes dibujos y colores, que era usado en la arquitectura gótica.
The architect of this fabulous work called Walter Betancourt Fernandez, had the genius to make the walls in the form of geometric figures, appreciating rectangles, trapezoids and squares giving them a cozy and striking experience to the techniques used in its construction.
El centro cultural declarado monumento nacional en el año 2013 es sin duda un referente muy importante para el arte arquitectónico de nuestro país y un orgullo para los pobladores de Velazco porque marca la belleza de esta tierra. La visita a este lugar fue realmente espectacular, al poder conocer un lugar donde está reflejado el arte, la arquitectura y la belleza. The cultural center declared a national monument in 2013 is undoubtedly a very important reference for the architectural art of our country and a source of pride for the people of Velazco because it marks the beauty of this land.
