Hello everyone, I trust you all are doing well.
It was a very disastrous day in some parts of Ondo town here in Nigeria yesterday. It rained heavily and it was so sad because a lot of things got spoilt, some people couldn’t even sleep at their houses because of the heavy flood. Properties were destroyed, and businesses and places were so flooded, the most painful part is in two areas water swept people away though, some were quickly rescued. It is a sad thing to talk about because this water issue has been happening for years now and both the government and the local government authorities are not doing anything about it.

I experienced one two years ago, water swept a man and his motorcycle away right in front of me and he died in the water. I knew he died in the water because people who tried to rescue him later found him but he was dead already. I don’t even want you all to imagine how sad this is. On the other hand, some people still have coconut heads, and it is annoying. They do not listen to instructions because why will they see heavy floods somewhere, and they know you cannot swim but you will still go ahead to enter the water being aware of what has happened to people In the area anytime there is heavy rain.

Now, I’m back to the local government officials. Sadly, these people are fully aware of what has been happening in these areas for years and they are all acting like nothing is happening. They keep acting unbothered because none of their family members have been affected by this situation. I don’t know why people's lives seem to be nothing to them because it won’t take them anything to repair the big canal that is causing all of this. My thoughts again are we as people are not united because if we united to some extent this thing would have stopped. I’m saying this because everyone knows the authorities are feeling unbothered so why can’t we as the people this thing is affecting come together with one voice, contribute money as a large community, and call people who can help us repair the canal that has been taking people's lives.

Some people couldn’t even sleep in their houses, a lot of people were homeless yesterday because of what happened. Two years ago when I experienced this, it was raining heavily and I had to go and pick up my nephew from school and I had to pass just that place to get to his school and also come back home. I’m so grateful for the people who helped us that day, if not this isn’t what I’ll be saying today. It just saddens my heart that things like this have been happening and nobody is doing anything about it. When it happens people rant so much about it and when it is gone we forget about it again.
I’m just sad about the damages this has caused and I pray the lives of the people this has claimed rest in peace.
