THE DAY I GOT MY COMET CRUISER
A short story
Twas the night before COVID, not a care in the world. Seems like different times looking back. It all started with a reddit comment, my desire for the elusive Comet Cruiser and a work trip. I posted in the DGT (Daily General Thread) in r/longboarding that I was going to be in the area and had no board or contacts, but I wanted to skate! A very lovely user reached out that he was in fact selling his board and only an hour from where I was working!
Met a random in a parking garage (felt like a drug deal) and secured the board... a wonderful and lightly used complete Comet Cruiser. Very early on to the scene, it was early 2020 when it changed owners, and I have not looked back since. This board is in my family forever and it has changed my life, opened my eyes and rekindled a stoke I remember from my first time stepping on a board. Everything was reborn with the wheels, trucks and overall deck shape/vibe just coexisting with such elegance. Each slope, run, carve or cruise felt like bliss and I cherished the moments created by this individual. The memories live with me forever, even if I could never imagine meeting a random redditor anymore.
Take that risk when it's in good company! He gathered a small crew of skaters and we spent an afternoon riding this parking garage with no issues at all. Security would have tackled us on my home turf, so this was a welcome change. The board he deemed the Wiggler lives on and the spirit will last a lifetime.
Thanks for listening, feel free to share any of your stoke stories and board purchase encounters!
