As usual, everything turned out quite differently than expected, although after all, it shouldn't have been a real surprise. Because if we recapitulate our memories and experiences from the last few months, this was exactly the kind of situation we should have expected. How could it have turned out differently for us?
But let's take a look back first...
As I wrote a few days ago, we once again had some uninvited visitors at home, which caused almost the entire team to lay low. Actually, I should have included myself among them, but I stubbornly refused to look the truth in the face and instead I went about my daily business as best I could. Even if it was a bit of a pain from time to time, there wasn't really an alternative. And as at least the little ones were showing clear signs of improvement, if not recovery, so I was quite optimistic that things would get better again. The sun was shining too, and we wanted to finally pay it a visit all together again.
But although I assumed that the epic battle between viruses and bacteria was now over and that we just needed to lick our wounds a little on the road to recovery, the fight that was raging in our house seemed to be far from over.
The older of the little ones, who had struggled with streptococcus a few days ago and fortunately got over it quite well, now has to fight a fever for the second time in a few days. And again, that fever is quite high. She also caught the adenovirus, which had previously spread to others in the house, and will probably suffer for the next few days. If it turns out like the others, then she will probably also have four days of fever, which won't just affect her in the end.
We actually had really nice plans, but we'd rather not tell anyone. For me at least, I'm hoping that I won't be struck down after all, although I assume that I've had the adeno-fellow myself. But I'll just continue to ignore my own state of mind and hope that this way I can somehow escape the whole mess.
Ignorance is bliss - sometimes you just have to follow this rather worn-out motto and pretend that nothing is wrong. Someone has to keep the flag flying, and as long as it hasn't fallen, the battle is not lost. With this attitude, we should be able to come out laughing last. And you know that this is one who laughs best...
