Christmas is just around the corner, and one of the things that makes this season so special is the music. Honestly, Christmas wouldn’t feel the same without those songs that bring the festive spirit alive. From songs like Feliz Navidad and Silent Night to more modern hits like All I Want for Christmas Is You, the music creates an atmosphere that’s just unmatched. It’s like every note and lyric adds a little more magic to the air, making everything feel brighter, warmer, and more joyful.

Growing up, Christmas music was a huge part of the holiday for me. I can still remember how songs like Jingle Bell filled the air, thereby making us feel like it was Christmas already. My siblings and my friends would sing some of the songs at the top of our voice— and sometimes get the lyrics completely wrong—but none of that really mattered to us. We loved listening to them and they kind of made the holidays more vibrant and gave us something to bond over.

And here’s the thing about Christmas music: it announces and brings the festive season to you. You would easily know it’s almost Christmas when those songs start playing everywhere. You don’t even need to check the calendar. The moment you hear that first carol song in a shop or probably on the tv, you would immediately know Christmas is almost here. It’s such a simple thing, but it sparks excitement. You find yourself smiling, anticipating all the good things to come like—decorating the tree, exchanging gifts, spending time with family, and just enjoying the holidays.

Back then in primary school, Christmas carols were one of the highlights of the season for me. I could remember us all dress up in our little Santa hats and Christmas clothes with the red and green colour, gather together, and sing our hearts out. There was something so special about it. The songs were literally important because they made everything feel alive. Whether it was the slow ones like Silent night or songs like We wish you a merry Christmas, i feel like those songs set the tone and the pace. They pulled us into the moment and made us feel the joy and togetherness that Christmas is all about. Also, at that time we sang alot of Yoruba Christmas songs during the carol especially in the chruch and here are some of them :

Even at home, Christmas music worked its magic. We’d play those songs while probably decorating the house or just placing the Christmas tree, and suddenly, what could have felt like chores became fun. It brought the family together, making us laugh, sing, and even dance around the living room. Even now, hearing those same songs takes me straight back to those moments.

But it’s not just about nostalgia. Christmas music brings people together, no matter where you are or what your traditions are. During Christmas there are alot of people who come together in the church or probably in schools just to listen to those Christmas carol songs and just enjoy the festive season altogether.

So as Christmas approaches, I can’t wait to hear those familiar tunes again. As for me, they are more than just songs; they’re the soundtrack to some of the happiest times of the year.
