Today, I was looking through my art stuff from the past, as I sometimes do. It occurred to me that I have turned into a bit of a prolific painter since 2019. 😀
Heute habe ich mal wieder meinen Kunstkram aus der Vergangenheit durchgeschaut, wie ich das manchmal so mache. Dabei fiel mir auf, dass sich aus mir seit 2019 ein recht schaffensfreudiger Maler entwickelt hat. 😀

Teaching oneself to do art involves a lot of hit and miss. Some stuff turns out, other pictures are pretty much garbage. As I paint strictly for relaxation, to take my mind off things, this doesn't really matter to me. The benefits of mental well-being are derived from the process, not the result.
Sich selbst das Malen beizubringen geht mit allerhand Ausprobieren und Fehler machen einher. Manche Werke gelingen, andere Bilder hingegen sind einfach nur für die Tonne. Da ich ausschließlich zur Entspannung male, und um meinen Kopf frei zu bekommen, ist mir das eigentlich egal. Die Vorteile für mein seelisches Wohlbefinden leiten sich aus dem Prozess her, nicht dem Ergebnis.

The thing is, sometimes I actually like the resulting piece. That's why I sketch and paint on individual sheets of paper rather than a sketchbook. That way, I can frame pictures that turn out, and hang them over my workspace for a time, before they disappear in the big stack of past crimes against the fine arts. 😃
Die Sache ist die, manchmal gefällt mir das entstandene Kunstwerk sogar... Deshalb skizziere und male ich auf losen Blättern Papier anstelle eines Skizzenbuchs. Auf diese Weise kann ich Bilder, die gut werden, rahmen und sie für eine Weile über meinem Arbeitsplatz aufhängen, bevor sie im großen Stapel vergangener Verbrechen gegen die bildenden Künste verschwinden. 😀

No matter what I'm working on, when I look up from my desk, I see the "good" pictures and notice all the things I could have / should have done differently. I like to think this helps me to get better at art over time. If so, great! If not, I don't really care. Rousseau was wrong: It's not always the result that counts. Sometimes it's how you got there...
Egal woran ich gerade arbeite, wenn ich vom Schreibtisch aufblicke, sehe ich die "guten" Bilder und bemerke all die Dinge, die ich anders gemacht haben könnte oder sollte. Ich glaube, dass mir das im Laufe der Zeit hilft, besser in meiner Kunst zu werden. Wenn ja, super! Wenn nicht, ist es mir ehrlich gesagt ziemlich egal. Rousseau hatte unrecht: Es zählt eben nicht immer nur das Endergebnis. Manchmal ist auch einfach der Weg das Ziel...
