During the Lunar New Year, Taipei rarely sees sunny days. Even when the weather clears up for a bit, it doesn’t take long before the sky turns gloomy again, with dark clouds rolling in and rain starting to fall. The cold and damp weather makes it hard to feel motivated to go outside. Even the usually crowded Dream Plaza looks empty, with only the brightly colored LEGO displays standing alone in the rain—like the LEGO God of Wealth, just standing there, getting drenched.
I noticed that the LEGO-themed slide was actually built using LEGO race car sets. If the weather were nice, I’m sure there would be plenty of kids lining up excitedly to play. But now, it’s blocked off with caution tape, and no one’s allowed to use it. There was supposed to be a LEGO challenge event here, with activities like "Duplo Lucky Star", "Prosperity All the Way", and "Step Up with LEGO". Each challenge used LEGO bricks to complete different tasks—like stacking LEGO pieces as high as possible within a time limit to earn points. It looked pretty fun, but there weren’t many people at the check-in area for the event.
Because of the rain, though, the LEGO pop-up store was packed—probably because people were trying to stay dry. I remember there was a similar pop-up store here last Lunar New Year too. The space wasn’t very big, but it had tons of different LEGO sets, along with special discounts. I overheard some people nearby saying they came specifically for the limited-edition Year of the Snake LEGO set. As for me, I feel like I’ve outgrown playing with LEGO, so I was just browsing.
Overall, this year’s LEGO New Year City was designed around the theme of "Good Luck in the New Year". From the "Lucky Town" at the entrance to the giant slide called "City Peace Avenue" and the must-visit photo spot, the "God of Wealth Wishing Pool", everything was full of festive New Year vibes. Unfortunately, the bad weather kept most people indoors—otherwise, the place would’ve been packed with visitors taking photos everywhere.
