Lessons from Elijah
Elijah, one of the greatest prophets in the Old Testament, lived during a time of idolatry in Israel.
His life is marked by boldness, faith, and dependence on God, boldness in faith. Elijah boldly stood for God at a time when King Ahab and Queen Jezebel promoted the worship of Baal.
Despite being in the minority, Elijah's faith remained strong. His challenge to the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel demonstrates his courage and absolute trust in God..This teaches us to stand firm in our beliefs even when surrounded by opposition.
1 Kings Chapter 18 Vs 21
Elijah went before the people and said,
How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him. But if Baal is God, follow Him. But the people said nothing.
Dependence on God
When Elijah fled from Queen Jezebel's wrath, he found himself in the wilderness, feeling defeated and alone. God provided for him through a raven and gave him.
This reminds us that even in our weakest moments, God is our Provider, Sustainer, and Refuge.
1 Kings Chapter 19 Vs 6
He looked around, and there by his head was a cake of bread baked over hot coals and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again.
Persistence in prayer
Elijah's prayer life was marked by persistence. When he prayed for rain after a long drought, he prayed seven times before the rain came.
This teaches the importance of prayer. This teaches the importance of not giving up in prayer, even when the answer is delayed.
James Chapter 5 Vs 17 and 18
Elijah was a human being, even as we are.
He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops.
God's power threw weak vessels.
Elijah wasn't perfect. He experienced fear, doubt, and exhaustion. Yet, God used him mightily.
