The Cents with Lincoln

    Hello, friends, photography lovers.

Art can be presented in a wide variety of forms. It can be both sculpture and architecture. Maybe painting, poetry, literature. Yes, in principle, it can be anything. Even an ordinary Coke can can become an object of art. I am sure that the coins, both out of circulation and those that we use now, are also objects of art.

I have already submitted several posts about coins from my collection. All of them were representatives of republics geographically located in the Caucasus Mountains region. These were Georgia and Azerbaijan.

There were also coins of the Republic of Kazakhsta

All these coins were minted in various European countries and, in my opinion, are very beautiful products.

But today I want to show you photos of coins from another continent - from America. This is the smallest U.S. coin, the cent.

This coin was minted in 1996 from zinc, but the top is covered with red copper. The reverse of the coin depicts the Abraham Lincoln Memorial.

The building is minted with amazing precision. You can see the smallest details: steps, decorations on the facade and sculptures are visible. There are two small letters F and G to the right of the steps. These are the initials of the coin's artist, Frank Gasparro.

More than 6.5 billion such coins have been issued. Therefore, it is not surprising that a couple of them got into my collection.

The second cent was minted more than twenty years later - in 2017.

The second cent was minted more than twenty years later - in 2017. Its reverse depicts a shield that symbolizes state and national unity.

But the obverse of both coins are the same. On them we see the profile of the sixteenth President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln.

Here you can also see the symbol of the mint where this coin was minted - D. This means that the coin came out of Denver.

The coins themselves are quite small, their diameter is less than 2 centimeters. Therefore, I used a special lens attached to a smartphone to take pictures. I hope that you can see all the details of the coinage.
