I met someone who asked me to quit my job in order to work for her. I am so flattered. I need that extra cash flow, the position and also the other offers that comes with the job. The only thing that makes it sour for me was that, I have to quit my job ASAP. I have to confess that I do not want to abandon my job because, I believe in loyalty, integrity. Doing that at that point too would also jeopardize my relationship with my current employer. While they have little to no offer- apart from my salary, they have supported me through my journey professionally. For me, that is more important than all the money and benefits in the world.
It came into a point that I have really decided to cut ties with this lady offering me a new job. As a woman, as a professional, I have self respect, integrity, honesty and loyalty. How was I to know that this same person will not demote, fire or even abandon me in a heartbeat in favor of someone else?
In my workplace, I feel that I had been nurtured by these values.That, we are not afraid to challenge the conventional in order to have a better, safer practice. That, it is always important to have that self respect, loyalty, love and peace- not just profit. not just getting ahead, not just the position.
Fast forward to the present and yes, I am still working for that said company. There were a few more incidents similar to this but I became very steadfast. I did accept one offer after communicating this with my manager, my current needs and my desire to stay working in that firm. I got her blessings and support. We are still working together. Not just as employee- employer relationship. More like working with friends. My heart is at peace, my soul is happy, secured knowing that I can be who I wanted to and have nothing to be afraid or hide from.
The feeling is nice when you feel like you've done something right. I certainly feel like that right now.
