Hola, querido hiver.
La película que reseño esta semana no deja indiferente. En Parásitos encontrarás comedia, crítica social, intriga, drama, incluso terror. Es una obra maestra que te deja clavado en el asiento preguntándote qué demonios acabas de ver en la pantalla.
El cine coreano lleva unos años en auge y buena parte de los motivos son películas como ésta. En mi primera incursión no imaginaba que podía encontrar tanta calidad y confieso que me ha dejado más que satisfecha. También espero que no signifique que me decepcionen las películas coreanas que vea en el futuro.
En el inicio conocemos a la familia de Ki Taek (Song Kang-ho), formada por el matrimonio y dos hijos, chico y chica. Los cuatro están sin trabajo y viven en un sucio sótano de un barrio humilde. No parece que se lleven bien entre ellos, pues se la pasan burlándose unos de otros.
Una casualidad propicia que el hijo mayor, Ki Woo (Choi Woo-sik), comience a dar clases particulares en casa de los Park (Lee Seon-gyun), una familia rica que vive en una casa de lujo. Todo lo contrario a los Taek.
Ki Woo ve la oportunidad de que el resto de su familia obtenga trabajo. Mediante mentiras y engaños consigue que los Park contraten a su hermana, luego a su padre y finalmente a su madre.
Las vidas de ambas familias se entrelazan, al principio mediante escenas cómicas, pero poco a poco la película empieza a ensombrecerse y a volverse un drama que te mantiene en tensión hasta el final.
Las interpretaciones de todos los actores me parecieron buenas. Te puedes identificar con cada uno de ellos en determinados momentos, pues representan estereotipos de personas normales. Esa es la magia de la película, que no necesita recurrir a grandes efectos especiales para que nuestro ánimo transite por todo el arco dramático posible.
Sin embargo, sentí el final como algo forzado y acelerado. Da la sensación de que tenían muy bien preparado cómo empezar, con unos excelentes elementos con los que jugar, y que después no supieron qué hacer con ellos. Mientras cada trama inicial es debidamente presentada para asimilarla, en la conclusión hay momentos en que me encontré perdida y necesitando un esfuerzo por entender lo que iba sucediendo.
Pero al fin y al cabo el cine trata de impactar, y eso en Parásitos se logra a la perfección. Si el director buscaba remover el animo del espectador desde luego lo consigue. El festival de galardones que recibió en cada convocatoria del año 2019 fue bien merecido, pues llegaron por parte de la crítica, los profesionales y los espectadores.
En cuanto a la parte técnica es una clase magistral de todo lo que se puede lograr utilizando escenas de interior. La luz, los planos, el decorado cambiante, la música y hasta el piso en el que la acción se sitúa nos permite permanecer sincronizados con lo que vemos en la pantalla, alternando entre el agobio y el respiro.
Mi recomendación es verla sin prejuicios de ninguna clase, dejándote sorprender por lo que te vas a encontrar, tal como me ocurrió a mí. Si la has visto, me encantará saber tu opinión en los comentarios.

The film I'm reviewing this week doesn't leave you indifferent. In Parásitos you will find comedy, social criticism, intrigue, drama, even horror. It's a masterpiece that leaves you stuck in your seat wondering what the hell you've just seen on the screen.
Korean cinema has been on the rise for a few years now, and films like this one are a big part of the reason. In my first foray I didn't imagine I could find so much quality and I confess that I was more than satisfied. I also hope that it doesn't mean that I will be disappointed with the Korean films I see in the future.
In the beginning we meet Ki Taek's (Song Kang-ho) family, a married couple and two children, a boy and a girl. The four of them are out of work and live in a dingy basement in a poor neighbourhood. They don't seem to get along well with each other, making fun of each other.
By chance, the eldest son, Ki Woo (Choi Woo-sik), starts tutoring at the home of the Park family (Lee Seon-gyun), a rich family who live in a luxurious house. Quite the opposite of the Taek family.
Ki Woo sees an opportunity for the rest of his family to get jobs. Through lies and deceit he gets the Park family to hire his sister, then his father and finally his mother.
The lives of the two families intertwine, at first through comic scenes, but gradually the film begins to darken and become a drama that keeps you on edge until the end.
I thought the performances of all the actors were good. You can identify with each of them at certain moments, as they represent stereotypes of normal people. That's the magic of the film, that it doesn't need to resort to big special effects to make us go through the whole dramatic arc possible.
However, the ending felt forced and rushed. It feels as if they had a great set-up to begin with, with some excellent elements to play with, and then didn't know what to do with them. While each initial plot is properly presented for me to assimilate, at the conclusion there are moments when I found myself lost and needing an effort to understand what was going on.
But at the end of the day, cinema is about shock, and in Parasites that is achieved to perfection. If the director wanted to shake the spectator's spirit, he certainly succeeds. The festival of awards that it received in each call of the year 2019 was well deserved, as they came from critics, professionals and spectators.
On the technical side it is a masterclass in all that can be achieved using interior scenes. The light, the shots, the changing scenery, the music and even the floor on which the action takes place allow us to stay in sync with what we see on the screen, alternating between overwhelm and respite.
My recommendation is to see it without prejudice of any kind, letting yourself be surprised by what you are going to find, as I was. If you've seen it, I'd love to hear your opinion in the comments.
