Endlessness.... weekly engagement #41.

    Pleasant greetings everyone!

Life comes with death as we know it, but what if you could live forever....would you?

The above prompt intrigued me so much for days that I was indecisive about what to pen down as my response. Who wouldn't want to love forever when the odds are in favour and all things are being equal. These and many more thoughts flooded my mind endlessly, till I decided to listen to my inner self and get the truth of my choice.

Life is a beautiful journey with a desired destination in view. Life was meant to be simple and lived simply by all of God's creation but the desire of man to know more than necessary and to acquire more than is needed, gave rise to selfish killings, riots and wars.... which has for a long time resulted in deaths of many.

Is death the end of life?

The answer to this question varies across diverse cultural and spiritusl circles. To some death is the end while to others it is a transition phase to a more better place called paradise. Sone other geoup of persons believe that life is a cycle and when a person dies, he or she is reborn to continue with their unfinished business on earth.

    Concept of immortality

Immortality from every source of definition, points to one fact, which is the ability to live forever. Lifespans for every human ranges from ages 70 to 120. So the concept of living longer or forever is very enticing but it is not without its demerits.

Man is a social being able to form lasting bonds and relationships. Sometimes a relationship can be so enjoyable and advantegeous that each partner prays against obstacles...death inclusive.

For some, it is the need to protect their offspring till they can survive on their own that causes them to wish for immortality but sadly none of these desires and wishes can stop death from carrying out it's task.

    Would I choose immortality?

The answer is a big no for me as I would not want to be immortal while the rest of my family grow old, get sick and eventually die.

Another factor that informs my choice and response is the fact that this earth is now so corrupted and filled with so much evil that If not for some very important reasons, I would not want to continue living in it.

Look around our societies and see the havoc pepertrated on a daily basis or put on a news channel and you will discover that more than half of thier reports are about social unrest. Wars are ongoing, famine is ravishing our nations slowly, political shenanigans, insurgency and terrorism are the order of the day. Things like this makes my hair stand on end.

Lastly as a Christian, I am promised of a far better destination where such havocs cannot be found. If I choose to remain on earth, how will I be able to get to that beautiful place called heaven?

I do not want to live forever and start burying my loved ones. Moreover, the stress of always trying to form new relationships because of my endless age seems so tiring and to prevent this, I would have to live in isolation and that would be a very sorry state to be in.
