Yellow catfish stew and red coconut bread are two more delicious treats we can enjoy in this little town.
It had been years since I last enjoy this dish and this dessert.
While my brother prepared the stew, I took care of the green plantain for the side dish.
We also added some ocumo chino or taro.
Once the green plantains are boiled, we take them to the wood mortar.
My brother has had this one for over 30 years and it was already used when he got it. He days it must be a hundred years old.
We smash the plantains for a few minutes until they become a homogeneous and soft dough.
You just add salt and it is ready to eat.
The yellow catfish is also ready.
This fish is caught mainly along the coast of the Gulf of Paria.
Very simple and delicious dish.
My mother is not eating much these days, and yet, she enjoyed it.
The dessert was hard to get by. This delicious coconut bread is not available in the bakery stores. Very few people make it and they "fly" when they are done. We ordered it two days in avance.
It is quite a treat. Another way to start the new year with a little bit of indulgence
